Telekinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind!

https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSFt6qiuxGiSF5tqdnom2zuPyKwGOh_W2O_Q2E-iRI0wpF4v7bgXQ

Unfortunately impractical without divine intervention, but lets talk about the technical aspect

Brain waves. So we currently have devices that exist which can read our brain waves, translate them into commands.

So brain waves are transmitted.

Brain waves can be received and transmitted.

It stands to reason that brain waves can also be amplified. We will return to this point.

Now imagine a visual representation of the other radio frequencies around us. They oscillate and pass through us, bounce off of surfaces and continue in the opposite direction, our environment is completely saturated by these frequencies.

Radio waves can be amplified and directed.

Their inability to become tangible prevents the waves from knocking objects over.

But electromagnetic forces can affect the tangible world. Interference, power fluctuations.

Lets return to the brain waves that are being transmitted outside of our skulls, but very weakly. Now imagine a visual representation of those waves extending in all directions around you, oscillating and bouncing off of objects before you. A plane of waves wrapping around all the objects in your vicinity. If only those waves could be directed and interact with the tangible world.

Now, we are still a far cry from being able to lift objects with our mind.

But amplification of those waves and translation to a more effective radiation is not a far cry.

okay discuss, I made a few assumptions so feel free to combat with knowledge

Brain wave detection is done by electrodes that detect wave patterns inside the body.

The idea of telekinesis is projection, which I find somewhat satisfying as a trans-discipline type of pun. But it makes for good science fiction. Sometimes.

Brain emits tiny amounts electromagnetic waves which are like radio waves in the microwave oven. Radio waves don't lift stuff, they go through it and heat it up depending of what the stuff is made of.

Let's see, what other kinds of energy out bodies can generate? I'm not counting muscle power which involves touching. Heat. Maybe a bit of static electricity. We can blow and fart on objects, but that's touching.

I can't think of a plausible way for a human body to move objects without touching them. Objects just don't move because we really want them to move. Telekinesis won't work without magic.

I am gonna get a bit geeky here but...

According to the Columbia Theoretical Science Division, subsection Meta-human, Gamma Radio activated, and other Superhuman Powers,(seriously these guys are paid to sit around and talk about comic books) the superhuman Magneto moves metal objects by using magnetic fields.

He creates these fields with his mind, or more specifically the electrical fields created by his brain. The the brain wave he emits creates a sort of  butterfly effect. It amplifies and grows until it has enough power to create the field.

While his brain still emits the regular strength brain waves as a normal humans, although their unique wave length somehow transmits and matches the same frequency as magnetic waves.

the main problem is you're limiting your analysis to three or four dimensions, if we were aware of a few more maybe we could discover a way the minute electrical activity in our brains could trigger a reaction or force at other points in our currently known dimensions. A lot of physicists accept there are a lot more beyond our comprehension through which most of the force of gravity probably leaks, explaining why it is so weak... if most of gravity is already lost to these dimensions, whats to say it is impossible to  push a bit more of it that way, and effectively defy gravity in our current dimensions....  can't see it happening anytime soon though....

I tried reading some recent X-men comics a few weeks ago, I couldn't stand it I was like "Okay this pseudoscience doesn't even make sense"

I think it depends on the writer, they have some really compelling arcs in the past

It's utterly pseudo-science.

Not real.

If people could really do this, we would know. But it makes for cool stories.

Oh yeah because gamma radiation totally gives you super powers.(referencing the original Marvel comic)

None of it was ever meant to be taken seriously how ever I do get personal enjoyment out of the discovery and science channels doing shows about Supermans powers, or how the technology from startrek or Star War would work in real life.

The Science of Superman.
The Science of Star Wars.
The Science of Star Trek.
The Physiology of Batman.
etc etc

In 2007, physicist Lawrence Krauss wrote "The Physics Of Star Trek" which was a really engaging read.  Nothing goofy - he took the direction of taking examples of science used in ST and said "if this is to work, here's what it has to do."

A number of years ago I was at a function where a gentleman had a device around the size of a VHS tape.  He attached some electrodes to my wrist, turned on the device and I could hear music in my head.  Not through my ears mind you but I heard it like a thought.

The mindset at the time was that if you could send an electrical impulse through the body to the brain then you could do it without the electrodes.  The second mindset was that if you could project a thought you could extract a thought.

There is more involved but needless to say I have never heard nor seen this gentleman or his device again.

There is a Star Wars toy on the market that uses a headset to recieve electrical signals from the brain and by concentrating you can cause a fan in the base to raise a ball into the air.

He's with John Gault now.

The government spends money on this and other subjects and seems to get at least some results.

Google the phrases --->
          project pegasus darpa
          project stargate darpa

(warning - lots of bizarre stuff mixed in to the results)

I'm a fan of the science behind telekinesis in Terry Pratchett's Discworld universe. TK is possible in his world, as long as the practicing wizard can bear the force of leverage directly on their brain tissue... which is to say not much.
