ArtisticGlamour wrote: Taylor, I've shot paintball there quite a few times, but where is the Ghosttown and Rifle Range from there? It's like the road dead-ends in the paintball parking lot, and I've never seen anything like the old Ghosttown buildings. Do you have to go through the paintball folks to use the ghostown stuff? Is there a turnoff before you get to the paintball parking lot?
You turn off before the rifle range and go up a hill. There is a caretaker who lives there. This is an old movie set.
1. If you don't mind paying, look on VRBO.com - I've found some kick ass locations on that site. And we're coming up on the Summer, so prices are dropping for a few months.
2. Post an ad on Craig's List looking for a place to shoot for free. Promise lots of nudity and the owner can stay and watch. This works too!

You could go out to San Tan Mountain Regional Park just south of Queen Creek. It's a big area and you can find plenty of places where it will just be you and the coyotes. Or you can sneak into the middle of a grown cornfield in Queen Creek and do some cool shots this time of year. Then there is a ton of empty state land between Ironwood Rd and Hwy 79.
If you don't mind driving out to Superior, there is a couple square miles of empty land with dirt roads through it in the area south of Hwy 60 between Superior Airport (a grass strip) and Boyce Thompson Arboretum. There are people back there on weekends but it isn't hard to find privacy. There are nice tall trees, a stream (Queen Creek), and all kinds of scenery back there.
If you don't mind driving to Globe, you can drive up on top of Pinal Mountain. It's a fairly well maintained dirt road to the top and with the altitude, the weather during the heat of summer is like being in Flagstaff...nice, along with pine trees and plenty of places to shoot. There are some camping areas and hiking trails up there but it isn't that busy.
I swear I never noticed anything past the paintball parking lot there. That entrance must be kinda hidden!
your circle has the pistol range at the bottom and the 'old western town' at the top. lately there's been a lot of sniper school things going on up top. pita.
you should just ask about shooting during the week at the paintball area. it's a lot cheaper. google it for a phone number. the guy who does the paintball leases from the owners of cowtown. pretty cool guy.

Wow, I've been in that parking lot many times and I never noticed the small road that seems to lead to the pistol range and "old western town". I always heard the sniper range, but didn't know how to get to it. Thanks for the heads up...I'm on the north-westside about 20mins from Lake Pleasant, so this may be a great alternative for me. You folks have convinced me to drive out during the week and scout it out. And maybe grab a burger at Wild Horse West while I'm out there!

The snipers were shooting alongside us not on a range. When I was shooting a model across from them some of them pulled out their cellphone cameras.

Can't really blame them! LOL! They are trained to perform remote surveillance, and be the eyes and ears of their unit!

Thanks a lot for all these recommendations. Really appreciate this.

Guys,
DO NOT go north of that circle. I/my company trains at the PMC range shown on this map and can tell you that we are live with long range munitions on the region north of the circle. Please don't venture into that area.
Your best bet is that if you are going to be walking around anywhere near there please take the time to let the shooters know; you don't want us reaching out and touching you by mistake if you know what I mean...
