You may need to read this Before asking for free work ,
http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=545999

you can post a  casting for retouchers to hire one.  Don't forget the Forum is to share  images for practice not for free work.

I'm not asking for free work, it's practice removing an item from an image I don't see how this differs from many a post on here. I'm allowing it for use in retouching portfolios as well.

I am pretty sure the guy who took the photo (or his assistant) could have removed the table.

Just saying.

And by doing so they would not have the benefit of the mixed lighting coming from a lamp on that table which would significantly impact the creative effort of the photographer... just saying...

As for retouch... I suck otherwise I would have a go at it...

Hope someone takes on this challenge.

Thanks...and no worries...I'm "ok" at editing and effects but my skills at removing items lack when it comes to this type of thing...and yes the lamp was definitely beneficial despite how yellow it was to light her as no flash was used for this photo.

This is sort of like TFCD between models and photographer which means that if a photographer provides a retoucher a practice image free of charge then the right thing for the retoucher who accepts the challenge  is to provide the photographer an image of suitable size for their professional portfolio.

For those who do not know most serious professional printed portfolios for photographers are 16x20 hence the need for hi res. Puny 8x10's do nothing for the photographer.

Asking for the full resolution image back to you. is like asking for free work   my dear.

just don't ask for full resolution back, and will sound better.

Ok if you think this are the new rules send  it to the moderators and tell them you are adding new Rules to the Forum LOL.
The rules are  Don't demand images back to you. if you wish to participate share images  so we can have fun. sounds like I killed to birds with one stone  hehehee.

So what you're saying (other than confusing "two" with "to") is that I have to send my RAW files to a retoucher and not expect anything in return? Am I allowed to shoot a model without a memory card since he or she doesn't need to expect images for her time on a trade shoot?

It's the retouchers' attempt to garner paid work. Why pay a florist when you can pick ditch weeds, you know?

I guess a closer analogy would be giving a random stranger your car keys and asking them nicely to top off the tank when they bring it back.

It's a problem I've had with these "challenge" free-for-all forums for a looooong time. As far as I'm concerned, NONE of this stuff should be happening. If you want to discuss tips/tricks, that's great. But I don't think anyone should be allowed to post this "practice" stuff.

yes other than  confusing the to with two.....  you can send   raw files to a retoucher   and ask for F.R.  image back, only is you are hiring him as your retoucher,

other Than that----> share the Images and don't expect anything back.no one is forcing you to share images in the Practice/ challenge forum
Simply like that ... you also go read the rules little brother LOL and drink a beer smile

You do realize what this sounds like, right? This kind of thing only encourages copyright violation.

Without getting snarky, the rules simply state, you can't demand anything back.

I think there are practice files done for the experience and then there are spec files where you show you could do a good job and if the Original Creator wants to use it, for other than portfolio, they pay the retoucher for their work.  That seems fair to me.

As individuals, you can do whatever you want.

Here are the rules:   http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=545999   (Quoted below)

Digital Arts and Retouching Forum
Challenges, Contests, and Samples subforum Rules

SUMMARY

This forum is a place for challenges ("Photoshop Tennis"), unofficial retouching/manipulation contests, and a place to provide samples for others to work on.

Images which are posted in this forum must include a note describing the permitted use of the images, and explicitly state that permission from the copyright holder has been granted for such use.

Contests and challenges belong here.
Images provided for others to experiment with/on belong there.

Note: This is NOT a 'do my work for free' forum.  If you provide samples for other members to play with, you may not require that those members send you high resolution versions of their results, nor may you demand a particular style.

See the subforum FAQ (next post) for more details.

For the OP, do you have additional frames that show more of the drapes and carpet, captured at the same time?  That would help the retouchers.

I do, if the retoucher requests that I'll be glad to send over more CR2s

but I disagree on expectations. I keep promises and I expect others to do the same especially those who want to be considered professional. I'll commit to you if you show the willingness to commit to whatever the project may be. I'm not saying I expect it back within 24 hours because that's absurd...but I do expect it back within a week or two at the most a month and I don't feel like that's being unreasonable. A model shooting TF expects photos within a week or two...why is this any different. (rhetorical not wanting to start a debate any more than this has since it's the complete wrong category)

I think unless you're interested in editing this photo and partnering with me on this than every thing else should be taken to a new thread.

Not sure why you are discussing expectations in your response to me.  I just clarified the rules that you agreed to abide by when you joined Model Mayhem and hoped that rather than the snippy comments, just providing the facts would be helpful.  I made no comment regarding time, or keeping commitments, etc.

Also, I provided a good tip on what would help the retouchers who do choose to undertake your project.

I think all these comments are relevant as they all apply to this topic and thread.

You are bordering on the asinine, now. YOU don't want to work for free, but you think it's okay for photographers to post their work gratis for retouchers to play with?

If a photographer post his work here he is ok with the rules, if not why do post the image at all?If youre not ok with the rules you have every right to start your own mayhem like site with your own rules... and see how that goes...

It's asinine to disregard the rules, and expect people to ignore that.
It's asinine to post in a forum which has, in your opinion, asinine rules.

You can tapdance around it, but you're wrong.

I keep coming across forums where I find retouchers not moderators acting like mm police calling out people who want something retouched or manipulated to use. If you disagree with  what the op is asking for why not just skip the forum and move on to the next instead of debating on what is considered free work or not. All of it is practice? Why waste all the energy debating here when you can be retouching or creating art? Are you police, retouchers, artist, or people who like to nag? What's the big deal? Unless your are doing the retouch how does it effect you and why do you care?
