I'm thinking that most poses are over used. I don't know why but I still let the models put their hands and arms up over the head etc.
The best pictures are ones that are natural and have reason. No one walks around the house naked with their arms above their head and pushes out a hip curve>
I'm guilty of capturing and suggesting all of the above.

yeah I do that all the time :p. If I don't, I just look like a bag of cement .
but I agree, the best poses are the ones that are natural and have purpose... not quite there yet myself, but agreed
You know the one; the model is facing you with one hand on her hip then she suddenly bends to the side from the waist, her right arm dangles from the shoulder straight down, her head lolled on one side, her look is vacant.
Some of them are really more a type of posing than an actual pose.
Such as the "I am trying to pose like a fashion model I saw in a magazine" but the outfit is all wrong, and the photographer is not shooting them at the most flattering angle.
Then there are a couple more:
- the bent over, shot from behind, pulling the panties away from the crotch
- the bent over, shot from behind, smiling, one hand or both on the butt pulling things open
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen those on various sites and I have yet to see one that I thought looked flattering. Than again... I am not a boy
I am a personal non-fan of the parted lips - show us your teeth - and stick your chin out pose. It's so overdone AND I feel it makes the models look like rodents. Some pull it off nicely, and some just kill it. They part their lips too much and it looks forced and ridiculous.
I like most poses... but the one I think I would miss the least if nobody ever did it again is the peace sign with one hand, duck-lips kissy face, hip to one side while holding the bedazzled iPhone with the arm straight out, in the mirror in the bathroom. It's particularly bad when they don't tidy up the bathroom first, leaving clothes on the floor, toilet seat open, and a towel on the rack that looks like it was used as toilet paper.
I can't even think of an example where that one was done well!
Yesss i agree!! Some people do overexpose their selves in photos. Most are incorrectly done in facial expressions. Also hand positions. A lot of people don't know where to put them when everything is going. I'm not the best expert but i know when something is wrong

The OMG I have this headache.
One of the reasons I love working with dancers and athletic types.

My answer for the thing I like least is an expression that says "I'm bored."
Certainly, there are lame or pathetic poses, but they pass, and you can select something else. Sadly, some models only have an expression that suggests they don't know why they are there, or what they're supposed to be doing.

Hand bra was done even before it began. Getting a bit over the lying on the back with the hips tilted up off of the floor too (although I've been guilty of that one).
I think the strong Amazon woman/Helmut Newtown hands on hips with power shoulders is getting a bit tired, but then again some poses just work no matter what. Same with the classic art nude S curve pose - been done a million times, but it does look good.
At the end of the day it really depends on the shoot and what it requires. I love bending my body into all sorts of twisted shapes, but simple and classic works best at times too. It's just knowing what is appropriate for the project at hand and then adapting your posing skills accordingly.
As much as the hand bra is dreaded, I'm sure there are some shots out there where it works perfectly (yet to see lol).

The bored stuck up face, the I left my brains in my other panties face, and the I'm-a naughty-cheeky-kitty face.
Oh, and the "I'd kill your grandmother for a cheeseburger because I haven't eaten in a month face."
Love your names for these poses. I think I recognize most of them but wouldn't complain if you posted a few examples... you know, for instructional purposes.

just saying
So it the guys shooting the pro models that are over using them lol
I shoot what is within the models ability and looks good for her figure type. Whether a pose is over used or not, that is of lesser importance to me.
