So I know The Walking Dead has been getting most of the publicity, but season one of Falling Skies recently came out on DVD and I just finished watching it. I have to say I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to season two starting up here soon.

Anyone else watch this show?

I love the show.

It barely got renewed.

That's a shame, I really like the show I hope they continue it past season two. But I think there are 2 things working against them... first, like I said I think The Walking Dead is getting all the publicity, and being that they are based on a similar premise the few people that actually hear about the show probably think it's just a copycat show.

The other thing they have working against them is the showtime... it comes on the same time as HBO's True Blood, which has a huge following. In fact that's why I ended up missing season one to begin with. Now that I'm caught up I want to watch season two but since we also watch True Blood, I'll have to set my DVR to record Falling Skies while True Blood is on.

I watch Falling Skies because I feel obligated to. I'm a sci-fi fan.

I think it's a strange show though and it could have been left as a mini-series.

Falling Skies is excellent! Each episode was exceptional. Some of the things they have come up with in this story are very interesting. The external spine the aliens put on the children is unique. That they are sensitive to radio freq. is cool. Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) is a great character, as is Pope and Captain Weaver.

I didn't know that it was on the bubble. I'm glad we are getting a second season.

I tried, but I quickly abandoned it...

...  Spielberg's treatment of children is so saccharin, I couldn't take it.
...  I am not overly interested in serial dramas -- they move so slow.
...  Being obscure  being mysterious.
...  Seems like aliens are the only politically correct bad guys nowadays; it
had to be aliens who invaded, not middle east terrorists or Russians or
     gangs or someone (anyone) human.

So, I gave it up -- while I am a big scifi fan, Falling Skies is not for me.

I had the same problem with Terra Nova, but gave up on that one even faster than "Falling Skies".  Spielberg + cute kids = disaster.

Yep, I watched it last season and can't wait for the new season. I've always loved the end of the world type stories for some reason. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next as they have actual contact with the aliens.

Same here. I just recently watch Battle: Los Angeles maybe a month or two ago and really enjoyed it as well.

The show (Falling Skies) has a different take obviously but I found it really interesting. Especially after the first 4 or 5 episodes, I think it really got interesting in that second half of the season as you started to find out more about the aliens after they had captured one and rescuded a couple of the kids.

Exactly. It took a while to really get interesting because they didn't give you much info about the aliens until close to the end of the season. Now it should get really good!

I'm amazed how many good programs are now in late spring/early summer: Falling Skies, Game of Thrones, Deadliest Catch, Mad Men, etc.

Holy crap, that ending was awesome-sauce.
The finale in general felt rushed, it should have been spread across 2 episodes, but that was pretty cool.

I agree. We went from finding Charleston, to leaving way too fast. It did feel rushed. And what's with the new alien? Is he friend or foe. I say friend or he would have killed everyone.

Still, it is the best Sci-Fi on TV and one of the best drama's period. Bring on season three! Woot and hollar!

The show has really kicked into gear during season 2.

I expect it to hit it's stride if there is a season 3, which looks to be the case.

What irks me about the show is that the season is soooo fricken short. It's only 10 episodes and now we might have to wait another year to see season 3.

Otherwise, I do like the show and it'll be interesting to see if the new aliens are friendly or not. I say friendly.

I agree. The TNT original shows all have short seasons. I guess its to save money. It is hard to build a complex story arch in ten hours.

I did not enjoy season 2 as much as the first season. Too much new stuff that should have could have would have been used against them in season one.  Even though I like the show and still watch it. It has nothing on the walking dead. GREAT series.

FUCK YES MOTHER FUCKER.

I watched the season 2 finale last night and died. Amaaaaaaaaazing. I actually loved it and felt far more engaged that in The Walking Dead, which I still adore but feel can get a little draggy. There's not a single character in falling skies that I dislike, either.

Agreed. Except that I have lost all sympathy for Karen, the half human-half skitter.

I have been watching the old seasons of Farscape, probably the best Scifi series ever.

Funny story: So a few weeks ago, I fell and subluxated my patella (knee) and whilst recovering, I dosed up on old Veronica Mars episodes, where skitter Karen played someone's girlfriend. I kept thinking WHO THE EFF IS THAT until I googled and then I was like NO WAY.

Yes, she's unlikeable but still, a good addition! She "channels" her overlord's words just so to make it nice and believable.

Hell yes, what an awesome show. One point of critique though, the in-between battle parts during an episode feels or simply is kinda long at some of them. But those guys landing at the end of S2 in their Mary Poppins' chutes looks awesome.

And I think they are friends (at least during S3). I think they come from another galaxy that has beef with the ones from the Overlords. smile

True Blood is complete and utter crap, currently.

Sadly, I know this because I watch it religiously.

Haha how can you miss an entire season? I guess S1 didn't make that of a great impact on you wink You really should watch S2, it has a nice turn in it, with consequences that could make you...let's say, see the human race differently (as in, less positive).

I had no ideas it was back on or otherwise I would have watched it.

I am enjoying the series but come on...exceptional? heh...some of the writing is hugely cliche and corny.

Season 3 starts this Sunday. New aliens look awesome, though trailer graphics looks odd.

Loved the show from the beginning and I don't get the comparisons to TWD with exception the "invasion, apocalypse" setting. With tech these days, it really that hard to record one while the other is being watched? Hell I don't even own a tv. I watch all my stuff online.
I really dug the opener and with Cochise as an Ally it does raise questions on whether or not he can be just as enemy but handling things more politically. Like US/Isreal relations. There is probably a deeper threat by Cochise. I also like the fact that with one alien species there must be many and so it will be interesting how far this goes. Ultimately Earth needs saving but at what costs and it is apparent that the face of mankind has changed permanently. The real story is in the human element and how it is all handled and I am looking forward to more episodes.

and they need to fix this youngest brother's clown hair.

They explain it in the episode - he woke up and couldn't walk because that girl implanted a probe in his brain. He's not sure if he's dreaming or it's real. Turns out it's real - he's meeting her at night.

Wasn't completely stoked on the first two episodes of the new season but there's definitely potential there with the humans working with the rebel skitters and the other aliens. Hard to know who you can really trust and I'm sure that's the point.

I watched the first two seasons, really liked it... still do... but just don't have the time for television anymore...

Wish I could watch some of my favorite shows (many from USA network) on a regular basis... maybe I have to join Netflix after all... smile

Not much happened in tonight's episode. Didn't really move the plot along and no real action with the aliens either.

Ok...so to be clear...he was NOT crippled at the end of the last season?  But they DID show that thing in his eye at the end IIRC.
