This is testing for the magazine which can be trade for new model's books, and also starting to stablish a relationship with existing models in Chicago. IF a test turns into a story, it could be used as a creative editorial - but nothing commerical will be done with the images.
Black & Grey magazine is fashion art, and opening up on the west coast soon as well as the midwest currently and Europe by the end of the year. We are a boutique, short print run magazine that has a print on demand option and is designed to take-on the industry in ways that only i-D, Purple, S and others have - for historical reference.
We believe that the models we feature should be some of the best up and coming models in the world and strive for that. Like i-D brought us Kate Moss, and photographers Juergen Teller, Ellen Von Unwerth and others we want to be the place that this type of creation of star power happens.
A test is simply a way to get to know the models we work with. Establish relationships with talent, agencies, and bookers for when the campaigns start to hit we are ready with talent we know and already love.
Currently, we are only testing to establish those relationships - which is trade I suppose, but within the relationship leading to paid work within those relationships when possible. To create stories that could be used for the stages of the development of the creative ideals we strive for. This has been described as a "DIY aesthetic with styling like a tornado, and isn't afraid of sensuality and art, while maintaining high values of sophistication and style." For the last 18 months, Black & Grey magazine has been developing it's aesthetic and we have found that our relationships with top regional talent is key! That said, we are also expanding into the Los Angeles and European markets this year and want to continue development to attract top campaigns, and be sort-of a creative look-book for buyers of those campaigns.
I hope this makes sense.
We hope we can work with a few models you have that need the work or their book, development and above all want to have fun in the process. We also hope to establish a long term relationship with BMG with this and other projects we get our hands on.

Hello,
If only I knew ahead of time! I'd have flown home to Chicago.
Maybe next time? Or, if you are going to be in Hawaii at all the next 4 months?
