Please watch the video. It is beautifully produced and has an uplifting message... Get your Kleenex.

http://youtu.be/Tz28tO2IIeM

I'm not sure if this is the most outrageous use of a politician's family to get reelected... I only wish they gave out a Noble Prize for being the greatest father of all time. Barack would win his second.

However, I hope his example helps with our country's problem with men who squirt and run. For that, I give the President kudos. He seems like a really good dad. I just wish he didn't need to use his kids as props for political gain.

Like every other politician?  You should start threads about all of them too.

Politicians using family to further their campaign?  No way!

Bush did it.  Clinton did it.  And those are just the ones I can remember.

Outside of the presidential campaign, I'm willing to bet that you'd find countless offenses by all party members.

Curious, do you scrutinize the candidates in the party that you favor as much as you do those outside of that party?

Obama did/said something = outrageous.  Got it.

The only President I don't remember having his kids in prominent display was Reagan. One daughter campaigned for him, but his relationship with the other kids was on the aloof side.

Even that shifty guy Nixon sometimes rode on the coattails of his (very nice) daughters.

Crap, you're going to make me Google things when I'm having a drink?  neutral  NOOOOOOOO!

I don't know, it was the whole "Family Values" thing with Clinton and showing Chelsea... I was pretty young at the time but I remember that I was pretty turned off by Chelsea every time they showed her.

With Bush, it was the two daughters... playing up how well mannered they are, how "good"... blah blah blah.  I don't think Cheney was able to really ride the family thing with his daughter though, unfortunately.  He should have.

No, he produced a very slick ad using his daughters as the main prop over and over and over again in the THREE minute campaign video.

This man will DO ANYTHING to get reelected. Sad, but true.

When it comes to the Presidency it is a package deal.
Wife of the President=First Lady
The children if they are good are held up as proof of leadership
If they are drunks and kind of slutty they are pushed into the background.
Obama is lucky to have very young children, before they get out into the world. He would be a fool in this “family values” mind set not to use that to his advantage.

And did you happen to catch any of the Republican presidential campaigns this year?

Man, I will if I can... you have no idea the project I have scheduled for tomorrow.  I'm taking pics of every prop I own so I can catalog it and put it into storage so I know what the hell I have to work with.

I came to the conclusion that I had BETTER have a few drinks as a primer!

This is a non-starter thread. Complaining about a universal constant that is neither good nor bad and does give insight to the character of the person we elect to lead us is just sour grapes and foolish.

I suspect the point is that parading family members for political gain is nothing new, is to be expected, and therefore not outrageous.

BUT - she'll NEVER get it. It's not her intent. In fact, her intent is the exact opposite. She's not interested in being sincere about issues regarding the current president, She wants to believe what she wants to believe to the point where she would turn any situation into a bad one.

This country won't elect a President that *isn't* a family man/woman. Yet, every time someone has their family present in their lives, people get outraged.

Love the hypocrisy of it all.

Surely you jest.  Jenna and Barbara were very active in their father's campaign, making stops with him and independently, appearing in ads, making staged appearances at the national convention, appearing on stage with him at events.

"Jenna and Barbara Bush are 22-year-old recent college graduates who are campaigning more or less full time for their father's re-election."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicsel … wins_x.htm

Let me be clear:  I think that the Bushes and Clintons both did a good job trying to shield their children from the national eye and focusing on them as children.  But both sets of parents involved their Jenna, Barbara, and Chelsea actively in the campaign trail.  As did John Kerry.  As did John McCain.  As did Al Gore.  And let's not even get started at the State and local level.  I still remember the ads that George Allen ran when running for Governor against Mary Sue Terry (an unmarried woman who was rumored to be a lesbian)...he had his wife specifically saying that the governor's mansion would be a healthier place for Virginia's with the "pitter patter of little feet running about" and showed his kids playing in an ad with he and his wife in the foreground.

To his credit, Newt never used his spouse to try to get himself elected.

Of course, that may be because he couldn't figure out which spouse to use.

Interesting.

I guess the OP will not be voting for Romney.  His camp just announced that his sons will be appearing on Conan this week in an attempt to shore up the vote of young Americans.

What say thee, OP?  Will you be voting for Romney?

Adult children are well, adults. Of course they help with the campaign. Just like the wife...

But little kids... Hmmmmm? Watch the video again. Nothing more than props.

Wow!  You try to hide a low life attack on someone's family by subtle language. That was low even for you.

Here is something to celebrate with better "family" values.
John Bryan, Republican city councilman, killed himself after police began investigating allegations that he had molested three girls, including two of his adopted daughters, ages 12 and 15.
Ted Klaudt, former South Dakota State Rep., found guilty of four counts of second-degree rape of two teenage foster daughters.
