The fix has not be released. This is about left/right AF points and appears only to effect wides (

I did 12 days ago.

UPS just returned the 'fixed' camera. Will know more after I test it.

Can you tell how you knew you had the problem? Test cases you ran?

This is not new.  Some people have issue some do not.  The D800 copy I have has no AF issue with the lenses I have, and yes, it is wider than 50mm.

Hopefully Nikon fix the issues for those that got bad copy of AF.  This guy got his fixed:

I guess what's new is the fix itself. Nikon has not publicly acknowledged the issue.

How long did it take for Nikon to return back to you?  Thanks.

Presumably by using AF points to the far left and far right and checking the focus quality matches the centre point. It does of course assume that your lenses are equally sharp across the frame.

Recently, I had a few situation during the shoot that neither the far right and far left can focus.  I had to resolve it by using the center focus on the view finder.  This is odd, but I did not pursuit after.  Not sure my problem is the same as this one.  Any one know?

I did an outdoor photoshoot and the images seemed a bit soft compared to my D700. Sfter reading up on the AF issue I ran these test shots:

Seemed soft (hard to see here but on the full rez images it's very obvious) - contacted Nikon, sent in the images and was told to send it in for the 'known issue' fix.

Just to be clear, where the left & right points soft but center sharp?

Using the center and right AF points the images was primarily clear (not as sharp as the D700 to my eye but clear). When I used the far left AF point the image was very OOF at the left and soft over the rest of the image.

I just received the camera back a few hours ago and had taken down my test pages, I will re-run the same test for comparision when I get time.

There are more detailed descriptions of the fix elsewhere. From what i have read it requires that the camera be connected to calibration equipment (so it's not a firmware fix, exactly), measured very accurately, and the results written into the camera. So you do have to send your camera in for the fix, but they don't replace any parts.

It is for reasons like this that I tend to wait six months before I pick up a camera after it is released.  They all seem to have teething problems when they are new that get shaken out in the first few months.

I am wondering how D800's assembly line.  It would be that one or two of their assembly line got affected by this AF alignment.

I was having focus issues on mine. Not sure what the culprit was but I took it to the retail store and they agreed. Sent in for repair currently. I wonder if this was the problem...
