I recently was working on a layer mask using Alt+ click on the mask, so i can see only the mask, and by accident discovered a way that i can view the ready mask in quick mask mode(red transparent mask), but i dont remember what i used to switch to the mode...
Can you please tell me the shortcut for it?

Press the "Q" key to toggle the quick mask mode.

Cool I learned something new. smile Using Q is still transparent but more applicable to an active selection (i.e. the marching ants), instead of a layer mask where as thats what the \ shortcut is geared towards. I like keyboard shortcuts! Good time savers. smile

I think the whole reason its red is because it was meant to simulate an old rubylith technique of masking using red acrylic. Typically I only change it though when the image itself is very red, in which case, blue or green works good.

You are be right about the color. Lots of good memories from college learning how to do it the old fashion way. We were so glad to move to photoshop after all that hard work.

If you ever forget the short cut just remember that lovely little button on the bottom of the main tool pallate.
