Leaving for Vancouver and IMATS 2012 in a few days!!!

I LOVE Vancouver... it's so stunning, it's almost surreal (the lush and mysterious Forks, Washington in "Twilight" was filmed in Vancouver).

I'm super excited to spend time with friends and colleagues I only get to see once a year - Like the folks at Blanche MacDonald, Vancouver Film School, my old Canadian crew from MUFE ...the list goes on.

I can't wait to catch up with the Vancouver makeup artist community and dish about all the stuff that's happened in the industry over the last year (including a 'certain' makeup artist designing a brush collection for Royal & Langnickel...hehehe).
There's going to be great education and keynote speakers on the stages (here's the schedule) and cool demos happening at the booths.

So, how many of you will I be seeing at the Vancouver Convention Center July 21st and 22nd?

I agree. Vancouver is an amazing city. I always enjoy my visits there.

We have a great line up of speakers. Many of who are speaking both days:

Valenté Frazier

The make-up team and cast from Once Upon a Time: Toby Lindala, Sarah Graham, Ann McLaren, Lee Arenberg, Jeff Kaiser plus special surprise guests.

MastersFX's Todd Masters, Scott Wheeler, Mike Fields, Brad Proctor, Sarah Pickersgill, Chris Devitt and Jeny Cassady.

Plus:
Kevin James Bennett
Stan Edmonds
Courtney Frey
Leesha of xSparkage
Cynthia Martinez
Heather Nightingale
Eve Pearl

Bring your portfolios. At our after party on Saturday night our editorial team will be looking for artists to cover and photo stories.

Check it out.

Was all set to go and demo for EBA - and got waylaid by an ear infection.
No flying for me.

Still undecided. At least I know we're not shooting this weekend, but I have so much to do at home, not sure I can spend the time and energy on an 8 hour return drive.

Our after glow party will be at Bellagio. A casual Italian restaurant with great chow right next to Canada Place.

Speaking of eateries....there are so many amazing Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. The one that was by the show went out of business so we have to find another one close by. Anyone have a suggestion for one between The Sutton Place and the show?

Then there is the fabulous, Pour House. Love that joint.

Be sure to download the IMATS Vancouver app on your smartphone. It has all the latest up to date info and even a few cool things you won't find anywhere else. That will keep you in the loop.....like last year when the lead actor came as a surprise guest with the make-up team from District 9. We can push an alert to everyone with the app. It's cool, it's fun and it's free.

Hi Garry ,

Sign up for our mailing list so you will be in the loop. Since day one, IMATS has always welcomed those who aren't make-up artists but still wish to join us in our celebration of the art.

I feel the need to address this and I apologize for my aggressive tone - BUT.

I am increasingly aggravated by the marketing of "pro only" and the propaganda that comes with it.
Every show has non-professionals attending. Did you hear me ...EVERY SHOW. If anyone tells you otherwise they are BOLD FACE LYING.
I have participated in all of the major shows in North America and many abroad (IBS, IECSC, IMATS, TMS, ABS, Premiere, Beauty International, etc.) and make a point to query attendees as to their place in our industry ... MANY are non-pros.

Their inclusion is not about disrespecting the pros - it's a matter of $$$. Without a assurance of sufficient sales, your favorite companies cannot afford to or will not bother to participate. So show organizers make exceptions to accommodate the vendors. Simple as that.

I applaud shows that have designated exclusive times or days to accommodate Pros, but you cannot fault organizers for allowing pros to bring guests (with $$$ to spend) or the admittance of student attendees - it's a business.

So keep this in mind when you hear claims of "PRO ONLY" or "Pro Exclusive" ...it's simply not true.
