I've actually been contacted by them 2 years ago. They actually mailed me the prints they wanted signed and I signed them and mailed them back.

Weird

And now they have your name, mailing address and signature.

Perhaps they are interested in identity theft?   Some people will sign with a stage name, and some people will use a business name.  But they don't need accurate information on everyone, just a few.

That's at least one of the places the guy uses to sell the autographs.

Clearly MBA school was a waste - I never imagined the opportunity to make mega $$$ selling autographed photos of random non-famous people at the flea market.

And to whomever said he could cash in if one day that person did become famous - statistics class was useful in MBA school.

I got an email the other day to much the same effect (but a LOT longer - I won't paste it all here!)

The address to send to was UK based, Leeds to be precise. I then got a message on facebook to my fanpage (sometimes I wish they never turned that feature on...ugh) from a guy with a completely different name but signed the same name as used on the email - Nicola Poole.

Ebony895@aol.com is the email address the autograph request was sent from.

The problem I have with the idea of scams like this is that a celebrity autograph will almost never be worth anything these days. Most of these celebs sign hundreds if not thousands of things a year, some of them do it for $20-30. They use it as a revenue stream. With that many signed pictures/items out there, most of these things will never be rare or valuable. About the only way I see such things ever becoming worth something is if that photo/print is a limited print-run of a somehow desirable or iconic image of them or if the autograph is on an object of special significance (like Johny Manziel signing the ball used in the A&M v Alabama game from last year or something similar).

The same guy hits up well known folks as well. That's probably where the money mostly comes from.

Plus if any of the under the radar folks get huge, he can capitalize on that.

Fairly certain my boyfriend's band did this -_- It sounds really familiar so I'll have to ask him about it. Thanks for the heads up, though.

What a nutjob! Who pretends to be have a sick husband to get free autographs and sell them? Awful.

Just got one myself, today, same guy, exact same message.  That little buzz in the back of my brain said to me "Haven't I read something about this somewhere before?"

Glad to have the search function!

Dear Aimee, I'm writing to you in regard to my husband Kenny who has gone through major back surgery and is going to be laid up in bed for a long while. My husband is a very big fan of yours. I would like to ask if you could please send him an autographed photo. If you could I know my husband would be thrilled and I would be forever grateful to you. Thank You Very Much Sandy

I think people who ask to send signed photos have some real steel balls.
I get thousands of requests and would be out many hundreds of dollars to make prints and pay for the postage if I obliged everyone. I've gotten this exact email a year ago(searched email with filter).

yeah i got one of those too:

(the thing that really gets me is that I am actually a vet. So this almost got me. I love other vets and always donate to the disabled vet fund. This is really disgusting)

OMG I was almost scammed this way!

It was labeled "Female Model Born Before 1993"

and it was this LONG elaborate letter from a supposed woman in the UK with an ailing husband who said he was a fan an wanted my autograph.

I just thought someone's either trying to steal my identity or do something that takes my notarized authorization.

Thanks for the heads up.
