I have a few shots of me in an abandoned paper mill. In one of them I even took off my shoes. There's all kinds of crap on the floor and I had to be careful of broken glass, nails, etc. I shot there 3 times, and one of them being in November, when it was barely above freezing point. It took me a long time to warm up that night.

The cake is a lie!!
We have a Portuguese swamp here that I'd love to shoot in... but I have this terrible vision of the model stepping out and being completely covered in leeches or something atrocious like that.
I clambered around a junkyard in the middle of the day starkers with another model. With the workers continuing their usual work day all around us. Got covered in rust, oil, dirt and gods only know what else.

I'm actually scared now, thanks! I hate leeches!!! Thankfully I won't be going in past my knees.
Actually, leeches prefer the ankles due to the thinner skin and high concentration of near-surface veins. But they do also like getting between your toes and behind your knees.

I am sooo hoping there are no leeches. I don't think there are, though. *crosses fingers*

GIs in Vietnam used to wear panty hose under their fatigues, when you climb out of the water (if there are leeches) simply peel off the panty hose...viola! leeches gone
I've had leaches on me, but that wasn't because of modeling. I was just a tom-boy as a kid. Ticks are way worse, imo.
Most of the places I've been in that were questionable while modeling have all been old falling apart warehouses and factories. Still, those are my absolute favorite places to shoot.
There was one time that I was modeling in a barn and I was right next to a large wasp's nest the entire time. Talk about nerve-wracking.
I have no cold shoots to brag of though. I do horribly in the cold, I look like a frozen mouse and totally suck so I just don't book those shoots anymore.
Boas, pythons, scorpions, baby alligator, iguana and a tegu.
But the worst one was when a photographer wanted to use white lighting, so he asked me to pour liquid laundry detergent over myself to glow. It was cold . . . I was shivering to the bone and hated every second of it. At least when I have poured milk all over myself I could warm it up a bit first.
I've done the whole chocolate syrup thing and have been covered in pumpkin pie. It was gross, but at least I was home and able to immediately shower.

OMG was I cold.
Was one of my favorite shoots though- SO worth it!
I shot in an abandoned paper mill in November, when the temperature outside was barely over freezing point. It was actually colder inside, and very humid. We shot nudes. It was horrible, but we got great pics!
I used to go to this music festival when I was a teenager. It was on a farm in the middle of Illinois, and it had a lake. Most years, the lake was filled with large chunks of algae. They looked a lot like turds.
If the water makes you feel itchy.....swimmer's itch!
You may get a bunch of mosquito like bumps that take a long time to heal and itch like hell. It's little worms that bore into the skin when the skin drys out. The worms are a cross parasite between ducks and snails. The European variety can be very dangerous. A wetsuit will prevent this, but exposed skin will be affected.
If the water has little green chunks, that's the blue-green algae, and stay out of that! The algae produce a range of toxins, like saxatoxin, anatoxin A&B, anf aflatoxin. In concentrated form, they are concidered biological warfare agents. I had to work in water with them present, and after 8 hours, my fingers were feeling a bit numb, and stayed that way for about a week after. The water exchange of a proper fitting wetsuit will slow uptake down quite a bit, but you will still get dosed by the poisons. Had I not been wearing a wetsuit my symptoms would have been much worse.

After seeing a few episodes of " Monsters Inside Me " I'm very careful around water.

Ummm....more description on "green chunks"? There were green flecks in the water, but not chunks.
ETA: I would think since this lake is used for kayaking, canoeing, etc...that they would have tested for blue-green algae. You aren't allow to swim in it, but I can't see it being dangerous to stand in for no more than 15 minutes....just gross.

Meh...I read up on it and it says that it needs to be very heavy or have contact from prolonged periods of time to be hazardous. I was in the water for a total of 10 minutes, if that.
