could you rephrase that question?
there are photographers on MM who do photography full time, yes. both editorial and commercial (usually a mix). but what's that about a company? there's no such thing as editorial companies who hire photographers to work for them fulltime

rephrase?? How about make it a question. I thought it was just another rambling statement of some kind.

There are plenty of magazines and newspapers who employ photographers on the payroll. I don't know how many are here though. The ones I know aren't because they have since come to specialise in non modelling photography.
What sort of information are you looking for? I don't understand what exactly you are asking. I do know that a lot of photographers on MM are employed, either by a company or self employed.
She's asking if there are any photographers on Model Mayhem that are field editorial or commercial photographers for a given company and who that might be,
i.e. commercial photographer for Macy's, Pier 59 Studios, JCPenney's, etc.
I would say yes and no,
-yes, that there are some and do list the company(s) or studios they work for
-no, that most of the others are commissioned to do work for said companies on a given project or for a limited time frame.
I was a full time photographer for the United States Army in Hawaii.
Pay was $16 per hour with time and a half for over time, which was very often. C'mon' Army? I got tons of evening, weekend and holiday jobs which filled my pocket very well.
If I understand the question, not 100% that I do, then I would caution you that whether or not a photographer is employed full time as a photographer is not the right question to ask. I do not consider myself a "professional photographer" even though I have been employed full time as a photographer twice in my adult life. Once was for a portrait studio which I'm choosing not to name, but being a photographer there took no real skill and was so easy almost anyone could have done it. The other job was as a photographer but for a company, not a studio, and it was not in any way artistic. I shot photos of products the company sold for their advertising which is entirely different than shooting people. Photography is a lot more than shooting photos for Abercrombie or whoever. I think the majority of the photographers on this site are better and more experienced than I in the type of photography you're probably talking about even though I have been a full time paid photographer going back almost 16 years. I'm only bringing this up to explain that it's almost a pointless question to ask if anyone works full time as a photographer. That's really much too general of a question and probably does not solicit the answer you actually wanted.

1)Thank-you for your response and time. 2) Thank-you for explaining this to the responders that want to "play"...It just shows me something about them.

I think it means they are having a hard time understanding your question because it does not make much sense.
There are a few full time paid in house gigs for photographers left around the country. Some Universities for example, have a full time photographer on staff mainly for public relations photography. Getty Images employ's about 130 full time editorial photographers on a global bases. There are also many catalog houses that hired full time shooters. Some of these catalog houses are in-house at places like Urban Outfitters and some work for companies that provide catalog services for these same companies. I am guessing that most of these jobs pay between 24-60k a year.
The vast majority of photographers who are full time income earning shooters work for themselves. Most of these are in the portrait/wedding/event trade. Some are in the editorial market, and some are in the commercial game. Within all these arenas are plenty of subcategories, i.e, fashion, portraits, still life, etc.
I have no idea how many or what percentage of photographers on MM are full time shooters.

I can't speak for him specifically, but in general, it varies.
Broadly speaking, the bigger the project, the less likely the photographer makes those choices, since there would be a budget for separate people to do so. And, the better the relationship / trust the company has with the photographer the more likely that the photographer has input.
Naturally, in cases where the photographer makes the choices, they are going to seek models who they know to have the right look, be reliable, and be drama free.

...and usually (but not always) from established agencies...
Thanks,so you don't take part in hiring the models for the companies nor suggesting any models to them?
Not sure how you are coming to that conclusion!?
I am actively involved in casting models for fashion shows, magazines and many of the fashion editorial projects for designers unless the client takes care of the models.

Given the recent spat of threads, I think she's just trolling.
I am a full time self employed photographer with enough work that I constantly have to hire people to satisfy work in my lap. I specialize in produce, fashion, and architecture photography. I can do more, but I've found that limiting my scope gets me more work.
