Organic, Vegan & natural make up
Hi I did a search but couldn't find much info. I'm currently working with an organic skincare company, organic and vegan tanning company and would love to use an organic brand of make up that isn't a mineral. In particular foundations and eye products suitable for photographic use. Anyone have any ideas? Im based in the UK so ideally looking for products avalible here x Sep 29 12 04:03 am Link I'm not sure if this is completely what you're looking for, but i'm no make-up artist! LUSH have recently brought out a completely vegan make-up brand, which is multi-purpose. I own the red lipstick, and it is amazing. Hope this helps. -Madz. Sep 29 12 05:33 am Link Thanks Kat, I'm already using liptars for photographic work although didn't know they had added tinted moisturisers and concealers to the range! Keen to see how they perform! I would be keen to hear about any other brands that are readily avalible in the UK, will defo check out lush cosmetics , love thier face masks! I've also heard Yaby is vegan ... is this true?! x Sep 29 12 06:13 am Link Oh puhleeezee!!?? Sep 29 12 06:21 am Link George Ruge wrote: Your point? I would much rather use makeup that has not been tested on animals but unfortunately, choices are extremely limited. Sep 29 12 09:20 am Link Elizabethmakeup wrote: +1 good for you! Cosmetics Famous brand that are successful and offer great quality! Here's a great list: http://leapingbunny.org/shopping.php Oct 08 12 01:56 pm Link I'm vegan and recently have really started to pay attention to make-up -- not just the vegan and cruelty-free aspect, but the fact that a lot of the ingredients in conventional make-up are straight up deadly (parabens, for example, are linked to cancer). A woman who wears make-up daily absorbs 5 pounds (2.3kg) of chemicals in her body every year. I personally want to start making sure all those chemicals my body absorbs are organic, non-toxic, biodegradable... Organic/vegan/natural hair & cosmetics companies I've come across and would recommend are: Beauty Without Cruelty Yarok Dr Alkaitis John Masters Organics MGA Sevi Neuma Starflower Essentials Suki Oct 09 12 04:10 pm Link Fae Northern wrote: If you're going to make statements about ingredients causing serious diseases (ie; cancer), please perform factual research and don't just repeat mis-information you've read on the internet. Oct 09 12 10:12 pm Link "Measurable concentrations of six different parabens have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors (Darbre, 2004). The particular parabens were found in relative concentrations that closely parallel their use in the synthesis of cosmetic products (Rastogi, 1995). Parabens have also been found in almost all urine samples examined from a demographically diverse sample of U.S. adults (Ye, 2006a). Parabens are estrogen mimickers, with the potency of the agonistic response being related to the chemical structure (Darbre, 2008). They can bind to the cellular estrogen receptor (Routledge, 1998). They also increase the expression of many genes that are usually regulated by estradiol and cause human breast tumor cells (MCF-7 cells) to grow and proliferate in vitro (Byford, 2002; Pugazhendhi, 2007)." - Breast Cancer Fund There is much more info about this online. Much debate, nothing proven 100% by scientists this way or that way as far as I know. They have found parabens in tumors, etc. I assumed the readers of this thread would not be so interested in quotes about how non-natural make-up ingredients are not good for you, if you're looking for natural/vegan options you've already done some research, so I didn't include any, sorry. When it comes to what I put in and on my body (which is almost the same thing) my policy is: better be safe than sorry Oct 09 12 11:44 pm Link Fae Northern wrote: Here are the facts – In 2004, Dr Philippa Darbre at the University of Reading published a study in the Journal of Applied Toxicology that said her group clinically tested 20 different human breast tumors and found parabens in all of them. Neither she nor anyone else could explain how they got there or why they were there. They also couldn’t say whether normal tissue contained naturally occurring parabens even when they were not exposed through external factors. This raised the possibility that the parabens (naturally occurring or induced) could have something to do with the cancer, but no one could explain what was going on. And since then, there still hasn’t been an explanation.
