These look great! Did you use flash or reflector?
I'm thinking I should have used 3 shot bracketing +/- one stop to make an HDR.

Yep... sure have... how high of a shutter speed are you referring to?  I'm a big fan of reflectors and off camera, tripod mounted speedlights too... wink

Gary,
My D5000 does not support HSS nor do I have a flash with HSS, but I'm referring to speeds much higher than the regular flash's maximum sync speed. Like 1/400 sec.

It seems an elongated reflector is a must for beach shoots. I had to use Lightroom to get some color in the ocean. As I posted earlier, I would use 3 shot exposure bracketing next time. I think the D5100 has an HDR mode that the D5000 lacks. I think Lightroom will let me combine exposures.

Try maxing out your 'Active D-Lighting' to 'very high' and shooting down at ISO 50 (D600 has that) or ISO 100 and using 1/200 for flash sync speed.  You should get some pretty sweet results... wink

I'm gonna havta try that sometime.  It's available on both the D5100 and D600.  I haven't had a chance to experiment with HDR that much... wink
