There are copies of my drivers license all over the country.  If you want to get paid for nudes, you'll have to accept that most people copy or photograph your license.

As far as a nude cell phone picture, it is not that unusual for a photographer to ask for a current, unretouched photograph.  They want to see if you have extensive stretchmarks, cellulite, scarring, bad acne, etc. that they will have to retouch (or are incapable of retouching and may want to pass on shooting with you).  You have a portfolio full of nudes - what is the big deal with sending an unretouched picture?  If you shoot with him, he'll have hundreds of them.

I post an unretouched picture on my profile page, so I never get asked to send one.

Well at the shoot it would not be odd to copy you DL if they are worried about any 2257 recording.

Now the cell phone pics is just way too odd; not worth it as there are far better photographers in your area that are far less creepy.

There is nothing unusual about copying your drivers license, the rest of it is going with your  gut feeling.  Having snaps is not unheard of but as for the rest, well it just a matter of the situation and your gut instinct.  If you think it's not worth it then don't do it.

Unless you told him lately that you just had a gigantic tattoo inked across your back or over your breasts, I would say that your two new current photos in your port should be sufficient for anybody.

Sounds to me that he is just looking for spank bank material.

I would pass, there are plenty of  good photographers/artists out there.

Your port is full of nudes. Why does he need a cell phone pic of you in the buff? Not for legitimate reasons, I can assure you.

Why risk such a compromising offer?
In your case, I would have already declined the offer, simply by having read the first half of your post.

Never had to send nude photos of me to any photographer in 4 years. None of them complained about my appearance.

Then a good compromise would be for the OP to post an unretouched image in her profile with the date and refer him to that.

If that doesn't satisfy the photographer's requirements then we know his only real interest in having a nude image of a model on his cell phone so he can share with those neighbors he wants so desperately to impress.

As if we don't already know the answer to that.

Probably just a socially awkward photographer. Asking for non-retouched snaps and a DL is common.

I'll let you in on a little secret. The "thrill" isn't always in just seeing a nude image (in reference to the people saying you already have nude images in your port so what's the big deal).

For some, the thrill is in getting a pretty girl to follow through on their request and to have that photo sent directly to him. It's not just the titillation of the photo but the fact that the model accepted his request and sent HIM a nude image.

It puts it into a far more personal arena than "just viewing the model's nude images that everyone else can see." Sending a personal, nude image is something two people in a relationship might do. THAT is the feeling he's trying to recreate.

It's just the vibe I'm getting but I suspect this photographer falls into that latter category.

Nobody has ever heard of The Girlfriend Experience?

Not all of my photos get retouched. I post proofs, unless the photographer says that's not acceptable.
I've been modeling for 8 years, and this is the first time I have ever had this type of situation happen.

Thanks so much for the advice

No problem. Now, another photographer mentioned to me that you have a new tattoo in a very private area. Since I'm thinking of booking you, could you please send me a fully nude image of yourself so I can see for myself whether you do or not? My number is 555-555-5555.

No? Curses! smile

I've asked models for nude cell phone pics before, but generally that's been when they just don't have nudes in their port.

It's like anything else, you don't have to do it if you don't want to. If you see it as an unreasonable demand then just tell him there are nudes in your port.

I do agree with the person who said he's going to have nudes of you anyway if you shoot, and it's not something that is necessarily creepy at all. But you have to evaluate someone's behavior overall.

Seems to me that if you "sext" him (I suspect that's what he's after), it won't stop there.

I'd say quit while you're ahead.

My opinions only...

Sweet_Nikki  wrote:

I would suppose that depends on the configuration -- will the neighbors be able to see you if/when they walk by?  What kind of trouble will you get in?  If you are arrested for indecent exposure, will the photographer step in & take the blame or will he pay your legal fees?  I wouldn't do this with a photographer you don't know well.

Sweet_Nikki  wrote:

Well, the gubbermint has passed some laws to protect the children, and it doesn't matter whether you appear to be of age; the photographer has to keep a record of proof that you are of age.  I scan model's drivers licenses all the time, regardless of how old they are or how old they look.

Sweet_Nikki  wrote:

ALL of my photos have been taken in the last month or two. (on this port, I have 2)

Yeah, that's a bit creepy.  I'd be tempted to photograph my feet or elbow or something -- nothing showing any of the juicy bits.  You can ask him why your portfolio pictures are not sufficient, or at this point, you can decide to bale.  Of course, if you don't tell him that you are baling, he'll start a "flake thread" about you.

Sweet_Nikki  wrote:

Mostly, no (except for the drivers license thingy).  If the photographer has made you uncomfortable, you have no business working with him.

While I never have asked for a cell phone shot, I do ask for a copy of a Drivers Licence from everyone I shoot with. I won't shoot without copying an official ID with age. I'm surprised you have never been asked for this before.

None of the requests seem totally out of line but the situation doesn't seem to appeal to you so passing on it sounds fine.

This sounds pretty rational to me, honestly. Maybe he's just saying "phone picture" because it's super common these days to have a decent quality phone camera. I don't even know many people that have point-and-shoot cameras anymore.

OP, I find it hard to believe no one has photographed/copied your driver's license. Having a copy on file is important for two reasons:
1. It proves you are old enough to execute a contract; i.e., a model release.
2. It proves you are old enough to legally pose nude.
"She looked 30," won't hold up in most courts if either of the above questions arises.

I once had a model who indicated in her bio that she had had "breast surgery" at a date later than anything posted in her portfolio. Other than a situation such as that, I can't see asking for a cell phone photo. My philosophy has always been that if the model doesn't "advertise" herself well enough in her portfolio, I'll work with someone who does.

Are you kidding me?

I booked a paid shoot with a photographer in a few weeks, out of town.
I have even done references. One girl said he will ask you to do nudes on his porch while his neighbors walk by. Supposedly another model told him this was ok. So I could get over that I guess.
But then he asked me he will need a copy of my drivers license. I've had photographers ask to see it before, but I'm pushing 30.. I didn't see the point of having a copy, so I declined.
Today, he asked me to send him a nude photo of myself by using my cell phone.

I can understand some would like to know they are going to be shooting with who they see in the photos. But to ask me to send a nude photo I take with my phone..

I'm thinking the 3hour drive isn't worth the images or the money for that matter..

Suggestions?
Am I being silly?

I haven't looked at your port, but for a paid shoot, I, and probably most photographers, would want to see clear and recent nudes.  Not greatly photoshopped, and not heavily shadowed.  Just straightforward nudes, front, back, and side.

Fortunately, I seem to get more models sending me such pictures than I ask for.

And, yes, I'm going to take a picture of the ID for any model I shoot, or for that matter, SEE, nude.  Saved my butt a while ago that I had such pictures on my HD for the nudes I had shot.

As far as the rest, use your judgment as far as comfort, don't do what you aren't OK with.

With all due respect to the OP, who looks like a very attractive woman with a very nice body, she also appears to have an amount of sun damage to her skin.  A clear, un-retouched image added to her portfolio either via an iPhone or P&S or another pro photographer is a good thing to have.

The images in her portfolio are either very Photoshopped or not very clear.  So asking for something that really confirms her appearance I am OK with.  Ditto the DL.  Gathering paperwork is a good thing. I would expect a shoot agreement and Model release to be reviewed ahead of time as well.

Many people on MM have difficulty writing well.  So many misunderstandings abound.  I would recommend not getting too concerned and just establish a clear understanding of what the shoot entails and don't listen to too much hearsay and do the job as long as he doesn't ask you to do anything that is really wrong or outside of your limits.

Photographers that don't ask for copies of a DL are running insane risks.  It's odd to me that you haven't had that request before.

Staying 2257 compliant virtually requires it.

I should think most photographers aren't a fan of the potential of a run-in with the DOJ so it makes complete sense to ask for that.

As to the nude cellphone pic...that does seem a bit odd...
