I am a product /ad/ portrait  studio kinda guy but I am trying to expand my horizons.  I am having a really had time getting talent to work with (from MM) I am thinking that there may be issues with my port ... I hadn't updated in a while so I blew it out and re uploaded new images... I need a feel on what should stay what should go ... you know the good bad and ugly.

I am a big boy I can take it smile

if you're going to advertise as a "product/studio/portrait" photographer on MM...then focus your portfolio on that. The fashion attempts and the glamour definitely don't match the other skills. Until they do, I'd not post them in the same portfolio...or I'd open a second MM profile to focus on them. They only destract from your main work in my opinion.

thanks for the comment, but I can be a little dense some times.  Were you being general or specific with "the skills don't match"?

I would agree with the above comments.  You images on your profile page show your ability in portrait work, but your portfolio images are worse.  They bring down the overall impression of your abilities.

I think your selection of models is a big problem, they don't look like models and they can't really pose or emote.  If you want to try to branch out you need to get the right subjects with the right abilities.

LOL I totally agree with that point.  I have issues with the level of llama that I am "attracting" .  I can make anyone "look good" from a portraiture perspective but the glam part is dicey due to the talent level I get to work with ...

So the obvious answer is "to get better talent"  the next question is "Sure, but what does it look like I need to do to to achieve that?

Personally, I feel that SOME images on MM look cheesy and cheap.

The subject selection seems only fair while your talents seem far above them.

You don't have to use MM for your subjects, just good quality subjects.  For instance, Lori the dancer.  DELETE that one.  The lingerie shots on the bottom are really tacky, especially, Pink.  If she doesn't want to wear a sheet top, fine, but that padding looks bad.  NyKol, NO!!!  Plus sized women in a portfolio in tight attire is not attractive and shows a lack of being able to select attire for the subject.

Images such as In Thought was top notch.  On your website you hit a lot of home runs.

Maybe take your regular book (portrait) and approach local agencies to see if you can test with some signed models?
