Two Iranian Su-25 fighter jets fired on an unarmed U.S. Air Force Predator drone in the Persian Gulf last week, CNN has learned.

The incident raises fresh concerns within the Obama administration about Iranian military aggression in crucial Gulf oil shipping lanes.

The drone was in international airspace east of Kuwait, U.S. officials said, adding it was engaged in routine maritime surveillance.

Although the drone was not hit, the Pentagon is concerned.

Opinion: How will President Obama react?  Maybe this time, when he writes a nasty letter, he will use a bunch of exclamation points (I find this to be a very effective tool in making a strong point).

Dear Mahmoud,

You really need to stop your aggressive behavior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean it this time,

With Best Regards,

Barack

What would we do if Iran was over North America engaging in routine maritime surveillance?

What would we be saying if Iran or China was just within international waters closest to the US engaging in routine maritime surveillance?

Probably flying next to them, keeping them distracted, and jamming the shit out of their electronics.

We would not be shooting at them.

Why is it liberals are always defending the terrorist nations?

A more fitting comparison would be 30 Iranian military bases surrounding the US on both the Canadian and Mexican border.

Kind of like this:

Gee, I wonder why they want nukes to feel safe. They're part of the "axis of evil" after all and the North Koreans already have nukes. No one will attack them.

Anyone remember what happened to the other part of the axis of evil that didn't have WMD?

This guy knows the answer.

That is what he did in Pakistan.  He wrote a letter.  He also wrote a letter to Bin Laden.  Bin Laden immediately committed suicide.

And the US did to the Soviets with routine spy plane flights off the west coast of Russia in international air space. Part of the game.

There is actually quite a bit of a difference.  We're on "friendly" terms with South Korea.  Japan.  Philippines.  Isreal. Saudia Arabia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Iraq.  Other than perhaps Venezuela and Cuba, neither of those nations have an equivalent alley in North or South America.  If they were to fly stuff in international waters around those two nations, we'd do nothing but keep an eye on them.

To be fair...

U.S. military intelligence analysts are still not sure if the Iranian pilots simply were unable to hit the drone due to lack of combat skill, or whether they deliberately were missing and had no intention of bringing down the drone. But as one of the officials said, "it doesn't matter, they fired on us."

They MAY have been trying to miss... wink

Maybe.

Obama taped his to the front of a bullet fired from a Seals gun.

I think Bush sent his via carrier pigeon.

I did consider that possibility.  But why?  it makes them look bad and I think they have the ego to NOT want people to know this.

They'll probably deny shooting at anything or claim they were successful.

He was more concerend with OBGYNs practicing their love with women all across the nation, plus getting human being and fish to coexist peacefully also required his full attention. Don't hassle the Bush!

This list isn't entirely accurate on Iran's part (they support Hezbollah for instance, and those have killed some Israeli civilians), but I'm sure everyone can see a tendency here. Iran hasn't started a war in 250 years and there is no indication that they have plans to start any wars in the future.

Whenever the regime isn't threatened by the West and can't use us as scapegoats, they are more than busy keeping their own youth from overthrowing the theocracy of old men.

Would have been "in" if the Iranians could shoot accurately.

We used to shadow Russian ships and planes whenever they were close, I do not recall us shooting at any.

This was an act of war and the administration chose not to disclose it till after the election.

There were a couple of dozen shoot-downs, although mostly it was the Soviets shooting down Americans violating Soviet airspace.

Well, perhaps you should do some research.

Scanned those cites and did not see ANY where US aircraft shot at Russian planes off of our coast. Most were near Iron Curtain countries. Yes the Vincennes was an unfortunate accident and what happens when you put a  lot of military hardware in a small area with hightened tensions and short reaction windows.

Yes and there were some subs lost too during the Cold War, maybe that is why the word "War" was used?
