Maybe Americans should stop worrying about the home lives of their politicians.
Extramarital affairs are pretty much a prerequisite if you want to become a politician here in France.

Exactly. Doing anything that might expose you to blackmail is very serious.

He probably screwed around just to get out of defending this administration's lack or action in Bengazi before Congress.

If he didn't quit after over 3000 Americans died on US soil I highly doubt Libya would drive him over the edge.

He should. If your wife can't trust you, why should we? These kinds of people are open to blackmail to keep their affairs secret. People at the highest levels of national security need to be shown the boot when they fuck around.

Extramarital affairs are pretty much a prerequisite if you want to become a politician here in France.
The head of the CIA is not a politician. Additionally, it doesn't matter. Anyone that has their hand in national security and/or directly able to seriously impact the lives of those they represent, they need to be trustable. While is is possible to have higher professional ethics than personal, I'm not sure how likely that is. And as I just wrote, when you have personal secrets you want to hide, how are we to be sure you won't sell out your professional life to protect your personal life?

Apparently, it was with his biographer, which the FBI discovered during this investigation:
http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/11 … s-say?lite
The biographer for resigning CIA Director David Petraeus is under FBI investigation for improperly trying to access his email and possibly gaining access to classified information, law enforcement officials told NBC News on Friday.

now see? this is already getting interesting. it wasn't necessarily due to the "affair", but the access the biographer had to his ish.
again, stay tuned...i know i will.

Which is not necessarily to say that the affair wasn't enough for the CIA. But yes, this is a little more interesting.

Well, I don't know about the CIA but the military is really, really strict on conduct of service members. If the military found out about the extramarital affairs would be considered conduct unbecoming. As I understand it, it's considered a very serious offense. My brother is a major and has referred to a number of instances when colonels or others have been dishonorably discharged over that.
Now, as to whether it's the same in the CIA… well, perhaps it's as someone mentioned: they can't have anyone who could be blackmailed. On the other hand, I can't imagine that there's anyone short of the president that the director of the CIA couldn't hush.

You missed the bottom line - it is the puritanic society he lives in that forces him to lie and cover up - which in turn makes him a potential victim of blackmail and that's inacceptable in such a sensitive position.
Over here people simply wouldn't give a damn, no need to lie and cover up, no potential for blackmail.
70 % of couples cheat on each other, it's 90 % in the military I believe, so this is pretty much the norm rather than the exception.
