My first thought was "New York City," but then I grew up there.

My second thought was "My Pants."

Heidelberg. It looks like you'd imagine a medieval Camelot.

It's got pretty much everything, old baroque houses, towers, a huge castle on a hilltop, cute Christmas markets...

Well, perfect for you could be Hell for someone else, possibly.
Your best bet is going to be a suburb of a larger city.
I hate snow, so warm climate is a must for me.
Getting everything I need within an hour or less is a necessity for a perfect city.
I'm not big on humidity, either.
World class dining and tons of hole in the wall joints.
Near mountains, desert, and ocean.

Hmm. I guess I pretty much already live in the perfect city.  Pasadena, CA!

Chicago, New York, LA.

Chicago I'm obviously biased but everywhere I go I can't seem to find food that compares to ours:/

People say New York has good food, but I've never been and they don't have Lou Minatis(-: I think either way you get culture& changing seasons(:

LA is warm. Warm and with all three you can see pretty iconic things(: ooh, ocean all year round. Palm trees, but no snow.

Depends on your definition of perfection & what criteria you use to measure perfection.  For example, how would you feel about a city in which no one speaks English?  Does cost of living matter?  Does the importance of religion (and if so, which one) matter?  Do you care whether the city has an NBA, NFL, MLB team?  What matters to you?

But then it would be like the Gobi desert - not much going on down there.

i like to hear other people's opinions and why they love a certain place, buuuut for meee:

must be predominantly english-speaking
cost of living doesn't matter
not religious so no bible belt for me
don't care about sports, although i do like sporty people lol

It is a gorgeous town... I grew up nearby in Mainz (2000+ years old), Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.

Heidelberg is very picturesque and they are also famous for an excellent university... but, if you want to do things... it's boring.

What I have heard is that Buenos Aires (Argentina) is probably one of the most exciting cities in the world.

The description I heard was from a NPR travel show... and it went like this:

Buenos Aires has the size of Los Angeles, the cultural offerings are equal to NYC, the nightlife is more and longer than NYC and the architecture is based on Paris. The lifestyle is based on enjoying your life and friends and not on just making a buck.

If I'd be able to speak Spanish... and had the contacts over there... that's a city I'd be interested to live in!

I was going to say that NYC is friendly... but the best I can come up with is that it's not unfriendly.

And as for clean... yeah. Especially the subways. Maybe the flooding cleaned it up a bit.

If you are going to suffer the cold in Canada, at least go with Montreal.
