Following last week's underage sex scandal, Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash has decided to step down from his 28-year position at Sesame Street. A statement was released by Sesame Workshop on Clash's behalf.
"Officials also tell us they're suspicious because the accuser has an email which TMZ obtained -- purportedly sent to him by Clash, acknowledging they had the affair when he was 16. The officials say the accuser never mentioned such an email existed and they believe it's fraudulent."

I really so hope this is some sick and twisted smear campaign, because if this were true - it is just a nightmare... The kids ain't even safe on Sesame Street!

Smear against the individual? If it were somehow part of a larger anti-PBS thing they should have done it before the election.

Not saying this is a smear, but if you're going to go up that alley...
The GOP has an ongoing war with PBS. They fully expected a Romney win and with his inauguration, PBS would have soon gotten choked out. But their boy got whupped, so the GOP might have tried a post-election smear to undermine PBS' reputation. Their war goes on.
Like I said, I'm not saying it's a smear. I just wouldn't put it past the GOP to pull something like that.

The article never said he molested kids.
He said the guy(now 23) and him had consensual sex - not denied by any party.
So the accuser was 16 at the time, and Clash was about 45. According to Clash, they were "consenting adults". When did 16 become "adult"?
Sounds more like some dirty old man latching onto a young boy for fun and games.
Should've kept his hands on Elmo and not messed with little Mr. Willy. I'm guessing there was probably an out of court settlement of a good size.

I have known who Kevin Clash is longer than probably anyone here because my best friend from high school and his wife worked in the same industry, and actually worked closely with Clash on occasion.
Kevin Clash's biggest problem before the accusations of underage relations was his ego. He wasn't happy with his character getting all the attention. It didn't surprise me when he started putting out books and documentaries about himself. It is ironic to me that he has lost everything because he put his own face out in the public so much. The accusers probably wouldn't have come forward if they hadn't seen him on TV, etc., so much in the last year or so.
