Just wanted to find out what guys here use. Do you shave with a blade shaver or an electric and how often?
Just wondering because after a couple of months the nice shiny electric shaver I bought is now back in the cupboard. I am getting a much nicer shave from my blades which I used to use, coupled with a cheap $20 battery shaver..... And both of those give me a nicer shave then the nice expensive paperweight I bought.
For interest it was a Panasonic ES RT81 wet/dry shaver.
Maybe Panasonic should stick to making ovens and TV sets.
Also left a less then favourable review on their website.
Blade. When hair is shorter and I need a really clean or close shave I use the blade.
Electric. When I am just styling or trimming down the hair.
Both. When the hair gets too long its too thick for the blade alone, so first I have to trim it down til its short enough for the blade to handle.
I still have that five o'clock shadow look even after I shave, but its not that big a problem unless I have to do a shoot or something in which case I know a few makeup tricks to hide it and get that super clean fresh face look.
super-cheap norelco beard trimmer to shave my head down when it just needs to be closely shaved, or a razor from a $2 4-pack walgreens brand disposable razors for the times I need to be 100% bald.
I've tried a whole bunch of other things, but in general 2 or 3 blade razors work best and that cheapo beard trimmer works well enough. I'd love to get talented enough to use a blade or really sharp knife.

Blade here - have a fierce beard of apparently - wire -
Tried an electric - after a little while - it just quit - and stopped with my face hair hung in the screen. Had to yank it out to get the damned thing off my face.
Cheepo disposable Bic sensitive skin ones - Literally work the best for me
Blade. Bics. I get lazy and don't shave every day. I occasionally let it go to near-beard, then I use electric clippers to cut it down to where I can use the blade and shaving cream.
Back when I worked regular hours in IT, I used to use a Braun electric and shaved on the way to work, while stopped at red lights.
I love shavers, but my last one died, and I don't have the cash to buy another good one. Good ones are really great. Now, I use a blade with regular soap. I use it again and again and again till it cuts me, then I change the blade. Three months every day, or six months every other day.
Blade - Bic Sensitive Skin disposables. Before the Bics, I tried just about every blade and electric shaver on the market, but never found the ideal shaver. Like most black men who go for a clean shave, I had to deal with pseudofolliculitis barbae ("razor bumps") for years. Since switching to the disposables, and softening my beard thoroughly with hot soapy water, no problem.
I haven't shaved in 20+ years Part Jewish and all. But Recent Events have me back in hasmat removal so I must be clean shaven. Everyday I use a twinblade Gelette using my wife's shave gell.

Blade. I've tried several electric shavers but I always end up with the same results: either a half assed shave, irritation, or a mix of the two.
But I haven't tried one since about 2002 or so. I'm OK with blades though.
Stop using regular shaving cream with alchohol in it, it kills your skin. Get some good mug soap and a fine badger hair brush. You can also get some good cream to use as a base if you want.

I use the electric if I'm just hanging out around the house. I'll use the blade if I'm going out.
You guys must have very soft/light beards. For me to get anything resembling a close shave with an electric takes forever. I could shave with a blade six time in the time it takes to get rid of my beard with an electric. The only one that even worked (at all) was a Braun and I killed it. I kill razor blades too, but they're more easily replaced.

I can't use the electric if my facial hair is too long. If that is the case, I usually shorten it up first.
