From alternative to speed, there are so many generes of hard rock/heavy metal music. I know there are a plethora of folks on here that are into great, kick ass music and not rap or Justin Beiber shit, so tell me, what's your favorite genre of metal and some of your favorite bands? For me it's the genre that dominated the 80s' and it was Hair Metal. Bands from Bon Jovi,  Motley Crue to Poison and White Lion, I fucking love my badass bubble gum pop metal music \m/ \m/

I am not very good at pinpointing what genre bands belong to really but I think it's groove metal.

I like bands like Lamb of God, Machine Head, Law of the Tongue, etc.

I like Alice Cooper and Kiss but then I like a lot of different things. I don't just listen to metal. It's my walking somewhere music...

No King's X anywhere in the group?

Anyways, my top 5 favorite bands in no particular order (changes depending on mood)
W.A.S.P
King's X
L.A. Guns
Enuff Z'Nuff
Skid Row

(Ok.. they're probably not considered metal by most, but still hard rock)

There's another band I've recently discovered called Frameshift and they have 2 albums. One with Sebastian Bach and the other with James LaBrie. The one with Bach is fucking amazing and probably one of my favorite albums I've bought in the past 5yrs.

Your top 5 bands are some of my favorite bands. Not King's X, maybe one song. But the rest you mentioned are considered Hair Metal. Speaking of Skid Row, I saw them this past Aug and I'm seeing Bach after turkey day. Fuck yea!!!!!! \m/ LOL!

Godflesh
Swans (not really "metal" per se, but in the same kinda "doom sludge" vein)

There was a time when I wouldn't have considered Heavy Metal to be anything other than bands like Cream, Iron Butterfly, maybe some early Black Sabbath. Granted, I was between the ages of 3-6 when these bands were at their creative peak. Then came A.C./D.C., Motorhead and Z..Z. Top but, I was heavy into the Boston Punk Scene in those days and didn't aquire an appreciation until much later on. These days, I suppose N.I.N. (a band I despise BTW) would be in the semi-forefront, maybe Ramstein or even some of the Thrash Bands like Girls Against Boys or whatever they are called?

I also love rap, and some Justin Beiber shit.

I'm not sure why you can't like all types of music, including pop, rap and Top 40, if you're also a metal kid.

I also love dubstep, and drum & bass music.

The original power metal bands from the 60's and 70's like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. And quite a few since then that are too numerous to list.
