Edit: I was running out the door when posting this... just noticed how twisted the header is!

It's supposed to read "Why do People Hate Yoko Ono"... facepalm

I am about to shoot an event in honor of Yoko Ono,,, and whenever I mention her name, there is a lot of negativity directed towards her.

Now... I am wondering, why is that... yeah, I know, people accuse her of the destruction of the Beatles... but... is it really true?

Why the overwhelming hate?

I don't hate her. I see her (as I imagine many do) as someone with very little talent who married one of the Beatles. I think the fact that she garners so much attention for having done nothing besides being married to John Lennon is rediculous at best.

Because she Yoko'd up the band.

On the other hand, John drew great inspiration in her; it was his talent that shone.  He gravitated to her.

She must have had something within her for a Genius to appreciate.

Odds are you already know the answer to that question but thanks for the status update:

She Broke Up The Beatles!!!!!!

Seriously though, I always found her "talent" to be marginal, at best.

Big history here

Paul McCartney wrote this as "Hey Jules," a song meant to comfort John Lennon's 5-year-old son Julian as his parents were getting a divorce. The change to "Jude" was inspired by the character "Jud" in the musical Oklahoma!. McCartney loves show tunes.

I think Yoko Ono is a talented and a brilliant person -- I don't think her talent extends to singing.

Lennon was very influenced by her and considered her to be a brilliant artist
if you are not familiar with how they met here is the story

http://www.beatlesbible.com/1966/11/09/ … -yoko-ono/

I think people dislike her because they blame her for the break up of the Beatles but I think she changed the way John Lennon looked at life and music in a good way.

He loved her and I don't see him as having a long term relationship with someone with no talent or intelligence.

Actually, Yoko's busines acumen is outstanding...her singing reminds me of small arms fire, close, really close.

I didn't know this about Paul liking show tunes.
I'm not a big fan of show tunes but I personally love that song "Poor Jud is Dead"

Barenaked Ladies take on it is counter to most people's view on it, and also probably the right view.  There song is a love-song, and while it slightly derides her, it does so to highlight the relationship between her and Lennon. The song, about the singer's girlfriend, says she, like Yoko, is worth breaking the band up over.

I think that's why many don't like her. They view her as the catalyst for breaking up the band, even though the band was already doomed. They see her as a stronger pull on Lennon and "The Beatles", which they can't understand. However, from Lennon's perspective, she probably wasn't what broke the band up, and if she was, then so what; she's worth it.

I also think racial issues of the 1970s played into it.

Anyway, imagine if we could all find our Yoko Ono, the world would be a better place.

Unless a girlfriend IS a musician and 'gets it', most musicians don't like girlfriends/wives to become the girlfriend in Spinal Tap.

I read a story the other day that reported that John McCartney as saying she did not break up the Beatles.  Lennon broke up the Beatles.  He was leaning in a different direction and Yoko was someone that fit that direction so they were a match for each other.

She's always been nice to me.

Yeah, people tend to blame her for breaking up the Beatles, but that's not anywhere near the truth.  I think they broke up when it stopped being fun, and it stopped being fun when they started to have money problems, when Brian Epstein died, and when Alan Klein started managing them.

But that's my theory.

I only met John & Yoko a couple of times, but Klein was a business associate -- he died a few years back, but I'm still working with his son often.  That's a long story.  Klein both saved the Beatles from bankruptcy and broke them up, in my book.

No -- saw her "in the country" with Alan Klein.  Last saw her a few years ago at a preview to a Broadway tribute to John -- it was interesting & nice, but it never got traction.  I don't know if it ever opened.

To those you claim she didn't have talent -- I disagree, but I would agree that her talent wasn't exactly "mainstream".  I kinda think of her as the first punk rocker, and her strength was in her visual arts, not her music.

Ah.

As for artistic talent... well, John is known for music so most people are listening to Yoko as a music artist, not being an artist.

Grating, Asian, and in the way.

Many still had an image of the four happy lads and there was Yoko, setting up a bed in the studio.

Fuck no.
