Just heard on the morning news that Hostess Bakeries is filing for bankruptcy.

So long, Snowball. So long a shelf-life, Twinkie.

“Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

"Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States."

"-- company had already reached a contract agreement with its largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. But thousands of members in its second-biggest union went on strike late last week"

The Teamsters had warned the Bakers that they had seen the financial books and that closure was not an idle threat.

I grew up on Twinkies.  I've heard that they explain why I am crazy today.  I will miss them.

What, no stimulus for Hostess? C'mon, it's Twinkies we're talking about here, "Too Creamy To Fail"

I work with a fellow who has two twinkies in his desk drawer. One is ten years old and the other is about 35 years old. Both are hard as rocks.

The older one has green filling - and it didn't start out that way.

If you think an 8% pay cut sucks, how about 100% drop?

of course that didn't stop them from tripling the CEO's pay and giving substantial raises to other high level manager in an effort to side step bankruptcy laws and keep managers at the company.

QFT.

Never mind that Hostess brought in as CEO a guy with not much experience in the food industry, but experience in corporate liquidation.

It seems that after the first bankruptcy, Hostess had this liquidation planned all along.
