Maher is a comedian, a social and political commentator, and a talk show host. I usually like his act, though sometimes he goes too far, like when he called Palin a cunt.

-Jascha Heifetz
Opinion: Whatever side you're on, extremist "commentators" are NOT helping make your point.
(Although I'd be happier if I'd managed to type in his name correctly. Bill MAHER.)
This says that Bill Maher wishes Jascha Heifetz were on the other side.

He's neither. He's a greedy rich guy who has found a niche in "entertaining" the dumbest sector of the population. He incites hatred and division, then sits back enjoying his ultra-wealthy lifestyle.
He's the kind of guy who yells "JUMP!" when he sees someone standing on a window ledge contemplating suicide... which is precisely what he's been doing.

While I don't blame Republicans for wanting to jump, I think it foolish to blame Bill Maher if you do.

too much attention is given to commentators & too often for all the wrong reasons; fallacy of appeal to inappropriate authority (argumentum ad verecundiam) ...

He did and he has.
In 2005, Maher ranked at number 38 on Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time.[4] Bill Maher received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on September 14, 2010.[5]
William "Bill" Maher, Jr. ( /ˈmɑːr/; born January 20, 1956) is an American stand-up comedian, television host, political commentator, author and actor. Before his current role as the host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher hosted a similar late-night talk show called Politically Incorrect originally on Comedy Central and later on ABC.

I enjoy Bill Maher. I love the way he shakes things up, has the strength to say what's on his mind without holding anything back. I watch him every week. This week he mentioned that Bill Clinton refuses to be on his show although he's been on the Daily Show more than once.
Bill Maher is a hypocrite and has a hidden agenda. He panders to his audience and is focused primarily on ratings and profits. He doesn't really believe some of the things he says; he just says them because it's controversial.
Still fun to watch tho and many times he makes good points. I imagine this is why Bill Clinton refuses to come on his show - it's beneath him.

I enjoy him, and agree with him more often than not (the most egregious disagreement I've had with him was regarding vaccines). I often catch his monologues and epilogues, but can't stand his panels -- his guests are pretty brazen about displaying their ignorance, from Congressmen on down.

He's a very intelligent guy who can be really funny. So he's going to apply his humor to something which piques his interest: politics. No, he's not a journalist; he's a comedian with his own show and enough money to have a legion of minions to do his research. When they do, he comes up with things like:
this one where he asks "Mitt Romney says he'll save America. Save it from what?"
Is he biased to the liberal side? Yes. Is he as out of touch with reality as Beck or Limbaugh? No. That's because liberal politicomedians don't gain popularity with being wildly out of touch with reality. They really do not. That plays well with the right wing but not with the left.
