I am terrible at applying makeup n doing hair. I try and I do my best at every shoot. I have a shoot in a couple days...and just went and bought a bunch of Chanel makeup. How do I apply for the best look. And hair..i need ideas or pointers "for dumbies" hehe..my hair doesn't hold curl well.at least when I do it.. Advice or sights to go to please let me know.. Thank you.

I'll echo this. A professional will be able to help you match your skin tone and compliment your features in a way that no youtube tutorial could. It would be a worthwhile investment. I'm sure lots of talented people in your area would be willing to give you a series of lessons if you can spare a couple hundred or so, even if it's not what they usually do.
The most important thing a model should learn how to do is contouring! Just remember, light brings forward and dark deepens. So for example, using a light colored concealer ontop of your cheekbones and using a brown colored concealer in your cheekbones will really define it. But yeah, just youtube! Pixiwoo does amazing tutorials
Youtube, Youtube, Youtube... If there's a certain celebrity or person who's makeup you like, like Kim Kardashian or Taylor Momsen or something search "Taylor Momsen Makeup Tutorial" or "Kim Kardashian Make Up Tutorial"... I find that those are far more helpful than just searching for a general makeup tutorial..

Ah the risk of being an echo, youtube is awesome, seriously. I'm totally fucking hopeless with girly stuff, and at age 24 I finally mastered liquid eyeliner, thanks to a random Asian lady with awesome videos! (I wish I could remember who it was)
One thing I didn't see here... find a MUA.
Here's what I suggest:
Post a casting call here on MM for your next shoot. You are looking for a hair and makeup artist willing to work with you on a TF (trade for) basis. A lot of artists who are just starting out freelancing will do your hair and makeup for the shoot, then they get copies of the images for their port. Its a win-win situation. Everyone gets the images and work done they need.
Being new at freelancing doesn't necessarily mean new to the industry-when I started freelancing, I'd been a Hair/Makeup artist for 13 years.

Why do models get on here and ask us to tell them how to do what we do? As pros, we have built careers around educating ourselves on what works on camera and how to enhance each model's qualities and minimize their flaws. Chanel is beautiful makeup but was not created for photography like professional lines are. Drugstore brands are high in talc and cheap ingredients that do not photograph well. Find a makeup artist and hair stylist in your area willing to test.......or ask the photographer to put together a team...good luck!

My hair has the same issue: Do this.
1. After showering- apply curl definer to your hair (all over). I use Herbal Essense Curl Define and Hold Cream. Its cheap and it works great. Smells pretty too! It doesnt make your hair all gunky.
2. Plug your curling iron in for atleast 10 mins prior to using. Hot rollers don't work in my hair. The curl doesn't stay. I also use a smaller barrel iron and section my hair.
3. After drying your hair- spray it with a lightweight hairspray. I like Chi Enviro Flex Hold Hairspray. It makes your hair mold awesomely and doesnt make it crunchy.
4. Section your hair starting at the bottom and clip the rest on top. Curl the hair. Spray it. Let the spray dry.
5. Repeat till you go through all your hair. Spray again.
Try Pinterest for makeup ideas and help. Lots of great ideas! Most important is to have good tools to put the makeup on with.

If you try to curl your hair with a flat iron it will hold the curl much better than with a curling iron. By looking on youtube you can find some great videos on how exactly to do it. I could explain it to you but without seeing it it might make it a little bit hard

Keep the makeup if it looks good on camera. If not find out the return policy and return it if you can. I also think you should get some decent brushes to work with. Many people here like Pixiwoo and will agree that the Real Techniques makeup brushes are great for what you will need to do your own makeup.
If you create a casting call you can say " I have my own foundation"
I also agree with you taking a a few "training" tips as well. Lots of MUAs will be helpful in assisting you. Consider being a "before and after" model to help you
( and the MUA or Hairstylist) create the best looks that work for you when you go to shoots.
