Just wondering how everyone else stay in their best shape? Anyone have a favorite diet/exercise routine they use? Tips from the pros? I love my body but there's always room for improvement, right?

I'm going to start the p90x workout after christmas smile i'll let you know how that goes. Other than that just try and cut out soda and junk foods and try and eat super foods like kale, spinach, coconut ect..

First of all, you look great "as is"  .  .  .  if all you're looking to do is clean up your diet, you may want to try "Fit for Life", it'll help you with portions, combining foods, and eating times  .  .  .  the results are pretty dramatic, and it's something you can incorporate into your daily life fairly easily  .  .  .  of course, all the pies and eggnog durin' the holidays is gonna make it kinda tough  .  .  .  wink

Personally, I just eat what I want, but half portions and less intake of carbs, salt, & sugar seems to do the trick for me. If its something like fast food...I will have a small fry, no salt and a kids cheeseburger.

As for exercise, I enjoy swimming, walking or biking.

I did the second P90X at the end of last winter, because I had gained some weight (mostly due to sloppy eating habits) after I stopped modeling, and wanted to lose it. I liked it a lot, because the workouts were fun and challenging, but I did lose some muscle, and my raw strength decreased. My cardio capacity improved remarkably, however, so that balanced out at least. I did the whole thing with a set of resistance bands, and none of them were really heavy enough to challenge and isolate my back and arm muscles in the way they were accustomed to being stimulated with dumb-bells and bar-bells.

When I went back into the weight-room, after P90X, I felt like I was going to die, for the first couple weeks of training with real resistance again.

If you are currently de-conditioned, or have weight to lose, it's a great program. If you are already in good shape, and just looking to drop some fat, maybe try integrating the P90X workouts into your regular weight-training routine, but do not become too dependent on it for strength and/or muscle development.

Hi,

No corn-syrupy beverages on a regular basis for me. Maybe only once a year or so. However, once you quit drinking them they taste like yuck when you do.

Also I consider what and how much I eat on a continuum. I do not abstain from any food or amount but, keep it in balance. I am a fan of not being hungry and love good food, (and even a greasy BIG cheeseburger too, with a large fry and lots of ketchup.) I may eat and even overeat but, I don't do it day after day.

p.s. I had been overeating and underactive for the last 5 years though, so this last 9 months I intentionally went back to my old ways, listed above.

the real goal is being healthy. healthy is always sexy while not all can be 'slim'
though you don't look to big to begin with

i never eat fast food, and my favorite things to snack on are dried fruit or chopped bananas with cinnamon and honey.
I do tae kwon do twice a week and spend other 'workout' time hula hooping or bike riding. I hate the gym and sweating and won't actually work out unless its a fun activity. Some people can run the treadmill for hours and I can't.

I have never been one to be an unhealthily underweight; I couldn't have an eating disorder if I tried. I hate feeling hungry and love food... ha! I have never been overweight either, but like I said, I feel there is room for improvement in my figure.  I really appreciate HEALTHY diet tips, being healthy is important to me. I have been trying ViSalus shakes and they have helped me lose 5 lbs this week...

I used to be a runner, but I have gotten kind of lazy with it.  When I run, however, my legs get extremely muscular and toned (which is good most of the time) but for llamaing I would like a leaner looking figure. I have done p90x before, and it got me into great shape but, once again, I tend to have more of an athletic body afterwards.  I suppose I should try fit llamaing if I go that route? wink

Imo, muscles are the sexiest accessory a woman can own.

Agreed!! I used to want to be skinny now I just wanna be muscled. Which is good, it suits me better and my physiology seems to lend itself more to a lean muscled physique (not bulging, just defined & atheletic looking).

Taking up pole-dancing completely inspired me and has transformed the way I feel about exercise and my body. It's my motivation to work out so I can get stronger and fitter for pole! I pole 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours, do Pilates/yoga fusion for core strength and flexibility and do toning exercises inbetween, with 1-2 days off a week.

For diet, I've consciously increased my protein intake and decreased my carb intake, while keeping the calories the same, and have noticed the difference - I have better energy, less sugar cravings and don't crash and feel dizzy when I'm hungry. Being a veggie I was just filling up on carbs before.

BTW - OP I just read your reply where you said you were using diet shakes - I don't know that brand but be careful of those. A lot of the time with meal replacement diets you only end up having a fraction of the calories you need. If you've lost 5lbs in a week I suspect this is the type. A lot of it will be retained fluid that you've lost which can return quickly. You can lose water weight more healthily by drinking lots of water (so your body doesn't feel the need to hold on to extra water) and reducing carbohydrate intake (body uses a lot of water to digest carbs so retains more for this purpose).

If you're looking to lose weight at a healthy, sustainable rate, aim for 1-2 pounds loss a week, no more. Just start by making small changes. Concentrate more on cardio exercises to increase your metabolism without adding muscle bulk if that's what you want smile

But seriously, Ab work outs are the shit for staying in shape. I like tapout video for abs. And running, especially long distance to some music. Helps a lot.

Food wise, I cant tell you. i'm horrible about choosing diet foods lol

1) Diet - Eat the right things often.  Do not starve your body.  Raw veggies, fruits, nuts and legumes.  Juicing is the best way to ingest all the nutrients from vegetables.

2) Exercise - Cardio, weights and anaerobic.  Mix it all up.  Keep your body guessing.

3) Lifestyle - Do what works for you.  A crash diet/workout will yield initial results but wont last if it doesn't satisfy you completely.  Find a healthy mix which you can live with long term.

4) Rewards - Allow yourself some cheats.  These will fulfill the cravings...and most likely once your body has become accustomed to a healthier lifestyle you'll crave/appreciate them less.

I do yoga, cardio (anything like bike riding, jump rope, hula hoop, elliptical, running, iceskating, skating), and I focus on abs, glutes, legs, and arms for conditioning-mostly floor exrcises,etc.

As far as foods....basically, if it comes in a box I try not to eat it. I try to eat mostly fresh or frozen fruits, and veggies, chicken and wild caught seafoods. I shop local and Im fortunate enough to have a huge farmers market in my town so I get to buy fresh herbs, spices, oils, flowers, and honey.

Gym 6 days a week.

Healthy, clean diet (namely "if you cant find the ingredient in my cupboard I won't eat it" - instantly removes loads of preservatives, flavouring, colouring etc that can have an adverse effect on the body)

Absolutely minimal alcohol intake - 1 unit per month.

No smoking or narcotics (goes without saying)

Vitamin supplements (currently only taking a multivitamin tablet and a skin, hair and nails supplement. Drugstore own brand, but definitely having an impact)

I don't have a "sexy" look, but have lost almost 60 lbs. since last June.

First, I started learning how many calories were in the foods I typically snack on, and eliminating the big surprises. Then finding substitute snacks to keep around the house, that I like as much and have less calories.

Still eat Panda Express for lunch or supper 4 days a week.

I found that, say, 2 entree of orange chicken with fried rice is near 1200 calories for that one meal alone.

But if I get angus steak with mushroom chicken and steamed veggies, that entire meal is under 500 calories.

No exercise regimen. I do part time tree care and landscape work and occasional hiking.
