Look at the photographer's portfolio and discuss with the photographer.  Don't be shy; discuss full nude, partial nude, etc.

Obviously, there can be a lot of subjectivity in such definitions, but I think what they all have in common is at least some nudity.  Whether it's artistic, emphasizing fashion or glamour defines the rest.

I second what Mark said about looking at the photographer's portfolio.  That will probably tell you more than any term used will.

Simple..... if it is in B&W it's ART.
If it's in full color it's PORN.

As you gain experience, you will begin to form your own opinion as to what the differences are. It's hard to describe the differences to an 18 year old, in terms they will understand. Sorry.

I think you decide the same way to put a nude in a category as you would a non nude.

So Art-clothed, Glamour-clothed, fashion clothed have the same difference.

How do you decide if a shot is a fashion or beauty one? I think sometimes an art shot and a fashion shot can intentionally blend or share flavors. I guess they all can.

I like art shots, I also like nudes I like creative. I am willing to combine them.

Are you asking because you are intersted? Which one do you want to avoid? Then avoid that.
Jen
Hey,
I just looked at your port. How would you describe your genre? Then look for photographers who have ports that look like you want yours to look. Should help you get in the direction you want to go.

Art nudes tend to be more figurative. Emotional, but not as sexual or seductive. An art nude will make you think, but it wont necesarilly trigger any form of sexual attraction to the model.

The easiest example of glamour nude is Playboy. Glamour tends to be more sexy/sexual, the purpose is more to focus on the sensuality of the specific model.

Fashion nudes look like fashion work, but with nudity. Expressive faces and poses. Similar to what you might see in Vogue with various amounts of nudity, but they aren't really explicit.

This is just my view.

Everyone will see things a bit differently, especially with the 'art nude' genre.

Art nudes = B&W

Glamour = color often making the model look eff'able

Fashion nudes = either in B&W or color but holding nothing but a fashion accessory like a purse (if even that)

[/sarcasm]

There is no good answer to this question. They can all kinda blend together & each of those different genre definitions can mean VERY different things to different people (like "edgy" or "sensuous").

My interpretation...

Art Nude - It's about light, form, lines, composition, contrasts, textures and mood.  It's the kind of work I'd show on a wall inside my house and not feel uncomfortable about anyone viewing it, since it's (IMO) reminiscent of the classic oil paintings.  There's almost a detachment from the model and the viewer, as if the viewer is simply looking into a scene.  Models can also come in any shape, from very thin to very heavy.

http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/09 … 0a4d41.jpg (18+)

Glamour Nude - It's about sexuality, beauty and titillation.  There's a sort of teasing going on because the model is either communicating that with her eyes, or accentuating the erotic body parts.  The model, in essence, is aware of the viewers and connecting with them in a way that communicates sexual desire.  Models tend to be very curvacious and have a lot of sex appeal.

http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/09 … 45d807.jpg (18+)

Fashion Nude - The focus is more on style.  Hair, makeup and wardrobe are very Avant Garde, or unique.  Models appear detached, but still aware of the viewer.  Models also tend to be much thinner and taller, with strong facial features.

http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/08 … 422f3f.jpg (18+)

Erotic Nude - Similar to artistic nudes, but there's a very strong sense of sexuality and eroticism.  Fetish can be a theme, but solo acts and couples can also be seen.  Either way, the images are bold and can be hard for some more conservative people to look at.  There's still elements of composition, lighting and tone though, so they can be very beautiful images as well.

http://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/08 … e02b9e.jpg (18+)

Porn - Google that shit, because I can't link it here.  In essence though, there's penetration, bodily fluids, unusually long cocks, and at least one guy with a pony tail.

Again, these are just my own particular definitions.

One can say the exact same thing about Porn.

it is all subjective and in ones personal taste.

I try to steer clear from these definitions as everyone will have their own.

model mayhem...

most don't know the difference

art nude / fine art nude, it's the photographers skill exhibited.
glamour nudes are more like Playboy where the model's look is significant and she might play to the camera.

with fashion nudes the clothes, hair and make-up become significant.

erotic nude makes you think about sex..

porn, shows you sex...

glamour nude is like playboy (photography wise I mean). so hot girls looking sexy.

ex: http://www.hotwomenmagazine.com/images/ … ayboy6.JPG

art nudes is often black and white but not always, but there it's really about the art. the human body as a form of art. with art nude it's often also full nudity.

ex: http://img3.etsystatic.com/000/0/522226 … 209291.jpg

fashion nude and art nude have a bit of an overlap, but with fashion nude it's usually more about the model and not about "art", and often with more attitude. and usually the entire naked body is less "out there" compared to art nudes. It's also almost always with fashion models :p. While with art nudes, they can be tall or short or thin or curvy, so it's less specific.

There really isn't a correct answer. Just ask 10 people what they consider Art? But I will tell you my mythology. I use my old university professors idealism that we all had to learn to provoke this thought.   1)- "Art Nude"... hmmm - if its not porn (and that was well defined by the Supreme Court) its usually Art Nudes. Standing - walking or just plain sitting and smoking a cigarette. Helmut Newton was very good at this type of work.
He also made famous *(2)*- Glamour Nudes," in other words tall thin models showcasing something in fashion /Glamour world, such as make up or just walking across a street naked from models you know just look . Usually it was the high heels. (3) Finally do not confuse glamour with fashion nudes. And thats the naked truth!!

art nude is grainy b&w with slender model in yoga pose. bonus points if they are on some driftwood.

fashion nude is when they're wearing a jacket and no bra and the jacket is partially open, maybe showing some side boob. often a slender model as well.

glamour nude is wowza. curvy model being all kinds of sexy. i can get very distracted shooting this kind of material.

LOL.

There's a bit more to it than that...the poses and expressions also have something to do with it.

I have a full color nude of my backside, not porn, more glamour I spose.

Porn = color + spread leg and ranchy facial expression
Artistic nude = "bodyscapes", B&W, sepia, blah blah

I guess it comes down to what do you see when you encounter a nude shot, does it make you think "oh that's lovely"; "oh that's too much, bam boobs in your face" ; "oh that's interesting"

Lol...I can't for the life of me put it into normal people words, so you get "Jo words" smile
