I may be at the other end of the spectrum, but for timeless line art black and white film interpretation some coverage make it easy for the photographer...

I just saw a gorgeous woman, hips from here to there... a rack that I could get lost in... a killer dragon tattoo wrapped from her shoulder around her back onto her leg... I was admiring her belly button ring when she took off her panties, and she was totally hairless!!
I was like, "Whoah! Are you 12?!?!? Shouldn't you be in school?!?"

I've found that about 80% of the higher end "Playboy level" traveling models I know or have recently photographed all have some sort of landing strip or trimmed bush. While the local, wannabe, hobby models are about 90% shaved.

I think that may be having to do with the BF factor, the locals are catering to their BFs while the traveling models are catering to their clients...

I shave as so do any women who get into bed with me. Been shaving since before it was cool...women tend to appreciate it.

I prefer the woman clean. At Minimum, trimming. As long as she is clean...I am not picky - but I have been fortunate to only have clean shaven thus far.

I have found it the opposite. Local models with bush and traveling models shaved/waxed. Of coarse there are some exceptions.

As a photographer, it depends on the project or look I am going for.

Personally, clean of hair down there. Hair tends to get in the way of play. :p

Grooming preferences are so subjective, that it's impossible to determine what actually looks "best".  With that said, there are some objective realities about modeling that I think make being shaved bare the best choice -- at least if you're a glamour model.  If you plan on modeling lingerie or something like that, it's much less complicated to not have hair peeking out of the wrong places.

Well what my boyfriend likes is not going to be what your boyfriend likes, so that's kind of irrelevant.

There's as much compositional merit to pubic hair as there is to the hair on your head, that's a consideration if it's related to your modelling.

Other than that it's what makes you and your sexual partner(s) happy.

Really it's just what makes you happy, but what makes my sexual partner happy makes me happy.

Do you girls wax or shave? and why?
And boys, do you like the brazilian wax?

i have many questions regarding this and i want to hear different opinions. My boyfriend says that shaving everything makes me look like a baby and he doesnt like it. what about you?

My boyfriend is always in awe of the mythical European women that embrace the glory of their body hair. He is quite fond of the natural look. smile

For him... He hasn't started shaving yet.

For me... I don't care for shaving. ANYWHERE.
I normally cover my legs and arms in public and only shave when I have a shoot that calls for an alien-like hairless body.

Sex-wise, of course, I won't refuse a woman if she's shaven or not.  But in the back of my mind, I'd be wondering, in the long run, what kind of a woman shaves her pubic hair, a natural indicator of womanhood?

Underarm hair is a natural indication of womanhood.
Periods lasting longer than 3-5 days is a natural part of womanhood.
Sagging breasts are a natural indication of womanhood.

We avoid all of those things and don't get shitty judgemental character questions. Womanhood in actuality has nothing to do with stuff sprouting off our bodies.

I go shaved, but I have had requests to be au naturelle.  But it is hard to grow it back because it takes time...even to have a landing strip...so I stay shaved.

Or the other way around, what makes you happy makes your partner happy.

But for our purposes here, it seems to me to be a matter of striking a balance between what makes the model and her partner happy and what makes the most paying photographers happy.

Unfortunately, looked at that way it remains a subjective choice so any advice is effectively no advice.

I had replied to a similar post about this, but I think it deserves repeating here.

As an artist, I was shocked a few years back when all my models from a local college started showing up completely shaved!

I got used to it very quickly and as an artist I found it very normal in art going back for hundreds of years.

Look at almost all sculpture of the female form (Augusta St. Gauden's "Diana" comes to mind) and all paintings depicting the female nude body. There is NEVER (actually I should not say never, but right now I can't think of any paintings with a full bush) any hair down below, because it would create a Dark Bulls Eye where you would not want the viewer to look!

I now find a completely shave vagina normal and artisric.

Professionally I prefer shaved. I shoot a lot of nudes, lingerie and tiny bikinis. Shaved goes with everything.

Personally I prefer shaved as well. The stuff tends to get in my eyes.

acttualy, the reason for that is mostly because pubic hair made the image sexual and intimitate instead of smooth, idealized art. the first classic art painting that actually showed pubic hair was in the late 18th centure (the nude Maja) and was actually considered pornographic at the time.

as for sculptures, that is mostly because imagine having to sculpt pubic hair... little bit more common in sculptures depicting males, but even there it's usually a very idealized easy-to-sculpt little bush.

My gf was waxing all the time and she just looked a mess with ingrown hair, skin torn off and red blotches everywhere. I tried to convince her just to let it grow wild, but she wouldn't. I stopped paying for the waxing, so she requires that I shave her. Now, her skin and pubic area look pretty good from shaving with a man's raiser and gel shaving cream. Both of us seem to enjoy her being shaved. She wanted me shaved too and tried but quit in the middle of the job after nicking me a few times. I had to finish shaving myself all the way from the belly button down. It was an interesting sensation with our bare skins touching, but shortly after, as the hair started growing back, it was like coarse sandpaper when we came into contact with each other. I had so many rashes and ingrown hair, it was crazy to consider doing it again. My hair has just fully grown back and I will not consider shaving it again.

Because of the pain and other issues, I will not consider asking a model to shave or wax. However they come to me, is how I will photograph them.

My husband prefers me bare and with just barely a hint of a landing strip. I am also a stripper so my customers like me shaved so they can see everything so it works out for me.

Since I make my money with my body I invested in getting laser hair removal now I am bare and don't have to shave and get painful Brazilian Waxes and ingrown hair problems are a thing of the past.

So ladies I suggest you invest in some laser hair removal.

I prefer a full triangle of hair as it helps to emphasize the female form and covers some of the anatomy underneath (nature's bikini)
Don't think you would ever look like a boy!! My girlfriend is shaved but I would prefer her with hair but it's what she wants so not my choice. Although it's really uncomfortable if we make love and she has stubble!!!

How much does it run for and how successful is it in keeping the hair from growing back?

For personal enjoyment, I prefer clean shaven and I have more confidence to stay longer and give my best for her enjoyment.  Not sure why, I found clean shaven gives the best scent.  smile

For shoot, I prefer a trimmed vulva.

I had 8 sessions each costing $200 but they get more than just the bikini and vagina area the also get the butt area LOL.

It is well worth the investment.

Daaaayum there be some strong opinions in this here thread!

It's my vagina, I'll keep it the way I like it! (And, well, it also helps to pay the bills, which I like too.)

Ever since I started shaving I liked it. My boyfriend likes it. Photographers like it. For the most part. Doing more fine art, I'm getting more bush requests, but so far, nothing deal breaking. I tried to let it grow out a little while ago. Itchy, stinky, mess. I know some girls who have cute, lightly grown out, thin, beautiful pubic hair. Mine just comes out like a raging, coarse, sprawling monster that wants to annihilate all who come near. Not too sexy.

Shaving works for me, and I enjoy having the control and the processes.

I don't really care.

I suppose, personally, I like it grown out.  I think it looks nice when it is trimmed, and it works well for the type of photography I do.  Some photographers/artists want it shaved though, so my lady pubes are ever-changing.

The boy doesn't care, either, he just likes it to be strictly one way or the other so that it never gets to that annoying "pokey" stage.  Haha.

Personally I like either a landing strip, trimmed triangle above or shaved and nothing below or behind.

Photographically it all depends on what I'm shooting, some time natural looks better for a trimmed bush can be visually stimulating.

Most women I meet are totally shaved models or not.

Some people prefer American bread - soft, smooth, white, kinda bland.

Some people prefer French bread - crusty, full of flavour and texture, occasionally you get a bit stuck between your teeth.

Yes, brazilain is fine by me; disagree with the baby comment. Expect you mean on girls as compared to myself. I have had a brazilian wax myself, was going to work as a nude sushi platter and had a full body wax for the occasion.
Also had a situation involving paintings I had modeled for being used in a show. There was a determination that display of male pubic hair would not be allowed as it would be obsene. The judge involved has no problem with female pubic hair. Did get some frontal male nude paintings in as a result of hair removal.

I shave totally bare most of the time. I do not like being furry for some reason. I think it's partly because I dye my hair blonde and having black hair "down there" doesn't look right, partly because it feels messy and unkempt to me regardless of if it's trimmed or not.

It doesn't make you look like a little girl, IMHO; I am pretty sure my 34Cs contradict that.

Legs are another story, they grow alllllll winter because I am wearing jeans or skirts with tights, and I lack the motivation to shave something that won't be seen.

And boyfriend does not care - he has no right to say anything either, because he could beat Sasquatch in the hairy category =P

Interesting.

The only time in my life I ever had problems with yeast infections was when I shaved completely.

I find the feeling of shaving/hair removal to be incredibly unpleasant. My skin will burn and itch afterward, regardless of the type of razor or cream I use, and nothing soothes it until the hair grows back in.

It genuinely baffles me when people say they shave "for comfort." I do not find a single thing comfortable about the process of hair removal.
