Not weird at all. Although a look strikes a chord, it's a lot more than just the visual for me. Also has to do with how they handle themselves, their off camera projects or antics and that unquantifiable spark....i forgot to add other celebs i would love to make up....Marilyn Manson, Tilda Swinton and Bjork. My all time fav is Audrey Hepburn (RIP), i envy the MUA's who had the pleasure of working on her.

I don't think it's weird, but I think it comes with personal development and maturity as in my opinion it comes with respect - respect for oneself and showing some dignity (and thus not warping into a screaming fangirl) and respect for another's personal space. I don't get the whole "OMFG, it's that and that person, must get autograph/photo/chat... whatever" either. I don't even get how people assume to bother another person in their free time (like at dinners at restaurants, goodness!).

Lol true but I'd be too afraid to say that in case the "artist" is amongst us. They're probably honestly a great artist. I used to be on Aussie tv for a (very) little while & the makeup artist & I always used to argue about my eyebrows because I was basically into the scouse brow at the time (omg, the shame!) why didn't I listen?

& I can only imagine the diva behavior some artists get from a listers

The Niki Minaj topic has been discussed many times here. Im sorry but they way they send her out sometimes it isn't just the avant garde angle its that it is
poorly done.

I'll take your word on that. I honestly only think I've seen about 3 photos of her apart from the viva glam campaign. All I remember is yellow hair, very pink lips and a rather large a$$et. Never seen one of her video clips either. I really hate pop music. I honestly didn't know what lady gaga was until someone explained her to me in about August last year.

I was invited to do Nikis  hair for the Grammys when she had that  giant roll in the front of her head , I said no becouse I didnt want to do that hair and someone else got hired , fair enough ,,,,,,,my point being is alot of times and more often than not when working with a celebrity you have to do WHAT THEY ASK , not what you want or think will look better , it dosent work that way unless you have a strong relationship with that actor and even then you run the risk of them going to someone elese who will do what they request ,,,,,,, its generally not the artists fault ................

One of my fellow makeup artists was hired to do Nicki Minaj's makeup when Nicki was up and coming and had just signed onto her label (years ago). Nicki had a lot of opinions (demands) on how she wanted her makeup to look, especially the contour of her nose. Like Anthony said, unless you have a friendship with the celeb, you do what you're asked. Compare Nicki's makeup three years ago to now, I think Joyce Bonelli does the best she can.

I thank God all the time that I can work with celebrities in a "non-market". I get them here in DC as visitors, in a hotel I'm probably more familiar with than them, with the agency in charge of everything, and the DC scene is definitely more chill. I think we have one paparazzi guy who gets side pictures of them so definitely no big crowds. Usually the celebrities are so concentrated on some speech they have to give or so nervous about meeting the President that there is no time to be a diva or have their people get in my way.

The times I do have to go with the talent it's way lower key than what you have to put up with on the West Coast, that's for sure! So I guess my experiences have been way different and I don't mind the celebrity work, or the paycheck. I never thought of location as being the make or break factor in working with particular types of clients but I guess it makes sense!
