MM newbie here, I got a question
Hi, everyone! I'm Sadie, I just got approved yesterday and I'm loving the site even though it's a little overwhelming to jump right in. Anyway, my question. In browsing around profiles I've seen a lot of models saying they had a great shoot but they haven't received the pics yet. I'm sure it's just my ignorance but to me that sounds like a bad idea, I'd be very reluctant to leave a shoot without the finished pics. So what protection is there to ensure the model receives her pics? Thanks for the help! Dec 31 12 04:17 am Link I just started my account too! In my (very limited) experience, ya gotta give the photographer time to go through, pick the best shots, and edit them into a thing of beauty. Just make sure you've discussed the time frame of that process before you start the shoot. Dec 31 12 04:25 am Link Welcome to MM both of you  Yes, make sure you discuss everything with the photographer ahead of time. Discuss how many shots you should receive, time frame to receive them, etc... You can always contact models they have worked with to try and get a reference, just look for credited images. Just use some due diligence and everything should be ok. For every person you hear say they did not get the images, there are tons that do, so it is a very small percentage that do not. You should read newmodels.com which contains alot of useful info. Also read thru the sticky threads at the top of each forum, they contain the rules for each forum and other goodies to help you get started here. Best wishes to you both and good luck. The key to having a successful shoot for both parties is to check references as best you can, be very clear about what you expect from the shoot, sign a release etc etc. Secondly it's unreasonable to expect to leave the shoot location with any pictures let alone all the pictures. No photographer is going to release unprocessed images to the client unless there's a huge payoff involved. Most legitimate "professional" photographers will follow through and deliver the products they say they'll deliver. If they didn't they wouldn't be in business. Maybe I'm throwing some words around here but you see what I'm getting at. Dec 31 12 06:46 am Link Sadie, That is a very good question,Most photographers do try to get the images to the model in a reasonable time,But there are some that take forever to get them ready,I try to get started editing the images as soon as the shoot is finished and email the model some of the images web ready so she can see and use any of them and to let her know that I'm working on them,It takes less than two weeks for me to edit and send them in the mail,The next shoot that you do you might want to ask the photographer to write down when he or she will have your images back to you,Best of luck in your modeling. Dec 31 12 12:19 pm Link you can ask for a CD at the end of the shoot (but maybe make this request upfront). but some photographers won't take well to that. i will do that for models i like (but they might have to wait around for an hour). otherwise check references and make sure some models are getting images. trade shoots are iffy. you take your chances. i've even heard of models paying and getting stiffed. just how it goes in the wild, wild west. if you find a reliable photographer stick to them like a fly to flypaper. lol. Jan 01 13 03:01 pm Link This is how I do it. I would get you some of the images the same day of the shoot electronically and all of them on a flash drive in a few days. I just ask models to obtain consent before using them. I'd never be offended by a model clarifying what she wanted. With few exceptions I can't get models to communicate almost anything so I don't have any idea what they want. Hell, most models on MM check their inbox less than monthly if at all.
