How is Bowling Green going to get by without you?

First off, I just wanted to say that I really love your work!  smile
I've been told in prior posts that I have too much of the same thing on my page.  Do you think this is true?  And if so, which images should I delete?  Are there any that you particularly like, and why?  smile

I guess this is an indiscreet question but, what is the highest money you have been paid for a non-comercial gig? Maybe answer in private if you prefer it?

1. I'm in a rut. What should I shoot next to step it up a notch?

2. If we were in the same city, what concepts would you want to shoot TF with me, if any, based on my current port and profile? EDIT: here's my current ideas & inspiration page:

Thanks!

I rarely, rarely shoot with other people. If there was a chance and you offered, I'd have to think about it.

Here's the main reason why:
1. I'm 5'3'' and you're 5'6''. I will look much smaller comparatively to you! smile

If we could find a way around the height difficulty though and come up with a good concept, I'd be all for it.

I never imagined you are shorter than me! But we could find a solution...

Maybe...

Otherwise, if smaller breasted is all right...
Cat Hedlund is beautiful http://www.modelmayhem.com/1771218
Jordan Bunniie http://www.modelmayhem.com/2260849

... I don't know who is active and whatnot, though, so asking me usually leaves me kind of stumped.

I was curious and I thank you for taking the time to think about it. I have only done a few shoots since I started last year, (I think its 9-10 beach and 3 night club, and 1 studio)and, as indicated in my profile, I am closing on in finishing my portfolio, with a Salton Sea location shoot, and I'm trying to line up desert and sand dune shoots.  Of what you see on my MM portfolio only 8 are in my book, which will be the primary tool for sales presentation.  I'll do a media display on a laptop as well. I'm actually hunting for agency or fashion models who may not quite meet agency stats but look tall when photographed, as in have long legs. I would like either red heads or dark haired models. I am supposed to be some time this month shooting a 6 foot tall dark haired gorgeous undiscovered model-yes, a fashion build.

Again, thanks for taking the time. On swimwear, by the way, I will be seeking to shoot such things for designers, in this area, and clothing stores, etc. So, I'll still shoot some beach.

I hope you have a blast when you hit L.A.

Thanks for your thoughts - - and I know that you're quite right! Sometimes those old images are just hard to let go of - - even when they're flawed!
Best wishes for the New Year!

I'm no artist, so this is a tough question for me. Take what I say as just an amateur's opinion and nothing more smile

I find your current avatar has a lot of character to it. It's not quite cartoony, but I feel there's kind of a light-hearted element similar to that regard. I'd love to see you expand more on it and work on displaying personalities in your pieces - especially with the use of ink.

an amateur's perspective is what I wanted, thanks for the suggestions

You have a very unique look, in my opinion, but you're watering down your potential with your current portfolio.

Work with talented people. Hire somebody if you have to (I don't know what kind of talent is in South Carolina - be very careful and choose the best of the best... if you don't think you'll see the picture in a magazine, don't write them for hiring).

In the meantime, I'd remove all of this:
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31139389 - pose is stiff and forced
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25471946 - I really dislike the makeup
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25431348 - Again, dislike the makeup. The post processing does nothing to help it.
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31139533 - Weak photo overall
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31139287 - No idea what's going on with the makeup

There's a couple other shots that can stand to be cycled out eventually, but for now, I think they'll be OK in your book.

Thanks, your work is awesome!

Here are the shots I'd remove:
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28917895
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29994566
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27674214
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27674019 (makeup and face angle is not flattering to the model)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28929802
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29992522
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28946206

Unless otherwise stated, it's basically a combination of lighting and/or angles that I personally am not fond of.

You have 172 images in your portfolio, and that's kind of overwhelming. I can't even get an idea of any style because you post multiples from the same shoot, which means I'll notice at least two of three being weak, so nothing really comes off as strong to me at all.

I'd recommend doing a serious trimming of your portfolio and removing anything that is less than your best. Use one shot per set if possible unless it's so unique and different between one another that you can get away with two.

I like your choice of models. Save for a couple images, everyone is posed very well and etc.

I'd really like to see you work on your lighting. In a lot of images, it comes off very flat to me.

Thanks for the kind words smile

I do see a couple sets that are from the same look... I tend to avoid doing that and trim my own portfolio down to one image per look unless I am on an image sharing website that I'm not using to market myself, per se.

I would remove these:
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25730283 (guitar pic on a model photography site?)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25730282 (see above)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25112867 (one of three - weakest one as  her knee is pointed at the viewer)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/25160235 (delete either this or the near exact b&w version)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31144678 (ton of this model already, and I find this a weaker shot of her)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31144684 (see above)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31144836 (see above)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28835765 (I like the other shots of Adrina better)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29778737 (not a fan of the post work)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29778736 (I like the other one where her full head is visible)

1. That's... a good question. A lot of your work reminds me of Pirelli's 2012 calendar with Mario Sorrenti, actually. At least in some regards - particularly with the water shots. Would he work as kind of an inspiration to continue exploring outdoor stuff? You two seem to have similar styles.

2. If you were in my location, I'd consider TF with you for beach shots with this kind of color treatment (http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31045636) or for super flowy fabric stuff like this (http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30987222). I'm sure we could work out other things based on your inspiration list as well.

Okay, I was going to ask you this later this month, but I would like to know how you came up with your modeling name, and if there is any meaning to it. Like a game character,or something.

Do beautiful models from Ohio ever come to Florida to shoot with we poor, old, talentless photographers slaving away here?????  It's nice and warm, if that makes a difference  .  .  .  wink

Thanks! I love Mario Testino. Just googled that calendar... is it me, or is it virtually a Helmut Newton tribute? Not just the specific voyeurism/exhibitionism of the models, but also the styling, locations, everything. Anyway, I like it. Thanks for the advice. And if you find yourself in Australia, call me first ok smile

Three main meanings to my IDiivil name smile

Id (like Freud) and iivil (evil)
ID (Identity) iivil (Evil)
I (I) diivil (Devil)

... it's all scary and alternative sounding, which doesn't fit me, but it sounds cute enough alone, and I can shorten it to IDii (ih dee), haha.

True. Definitely a Helmut Newton feel. I didn't even think about that, haha.

Glad you like!
