- After the 5th time the escort has sneaked in over my shoulder with her 100 dollar point and shoot POS camera with the flash on triggering the strobes and basically derailing any kind of rhythm I had with the model.
It doesn't matter if you're 16 or 25, but if you don't feel safe going to shoots, you should not go to the shoot!
Do you really think that if somebody is going to do unspeakable things to you, they're going to think twice about taking the babysitter out first so they're not a problem?
Yes and no. That number is usually based on what's being shot and how good the model is. Its tough to predict unless you're the type that tries to wow people with quantity.
not really the same, but when I go out drawing live in bar or on the street or something people love to tell me all about how they used to draw once upon a time ago, or took an art class or whatever. or how their kids like to draw or took a class or whatever. no shit. who hasn't.

I feel for you, Everybody has a "better" camera, no kidding, everybody owns a camera.
I get "oh, you still use that old camera?" For a Hasselblad 501 (with a digital back) and "my dad had a camera just like that, well sort of, it was big and took film..."
"I have a new Canokon, you should be using something like that, it's what the pros use. The guy at Best Buy told me so..."

First paragraph I agree with.
Second one is ridiculous. Yes, of course he will think twice if there is a second person there. It is much harder to do/get away with it (whatever it is) when a second person is there. So many more things can go wrong with having to deal with a second person.

2months after shooting, signing a release and accepting payment:
"my family is very conservative and don't want me to model anymore, so please do not use my images anymore, if you do my cousin is a lawyer and will
"My boyfriend just bought a camera and wants to learn from you how to be a photographer so I'll have to bring him as my escort."
"I don't want you to use the nudes we shot, I decided I want to go into politics and can't have nudes floating around."
3am message:
"I can't make it tomorrow, my mom was going to drive me and she just bailed" - @ 3am?
"My usual photographer shoots for Playboy" (I was in a small town 2hrs north of Atlanta...)
"Can we shoot like this (insert link to another photographer) I really like his work...".
Me: "Wheres your escort?".
Model: "Oh I decided I wanted to be alone with you."
"Is there a bathroom nearby?" ...... When on location
About a year ago, the model and my team drove for two hours down a forest service road in order to get to a beautiful canyon. After getting there and taking 30 minutes to prepare (put on makeup and set up strobes), the model had to use the restroom. Unfortunately, I didn't have any toilet paper and she refused to go without it. So I packed everything up and we drove two hours back to town so she could use a toilet.
Needless to say, I now bring TP whenever doing a location shoot.

Has that seriously happened? My god... and I thought it was cheeky to say "That can be easily photoshopped"... some people...
The worst one I've heard was "I only shoot with experienced photographers" on a newbie page. I'm a newbie myself and found that borderline funny. As if we can be picky about who we shoot with to that extent!

I have really really enjoyed this thread, including the stuff that I didn't necessarily agree with. Great fun and great perspective and enough OMG moments to get me laughing out loud.
However a few observations:
We earn odd comments when we say 'come over for a nude TFP and we don't communicate a plan, a concept or the starting intention. It won't likely be a professional outcome if we don't sit down a couple of days before and go through a checklist including hair, mu, start/end time, wardrobe, mutual expectations (TFP means a trade and the model has a right to expect something valuable from the shoot as well), who will be allowed to accompany the model (in nmy case, no boyfriends or family and I warn that anyone who does come along may be put to work (holding reflectors etc. ), and a lot more. There must be a list of items to cover in a pre-shoot meeting somewhere on MM.
We also need to be patient with new and respectful models who ask obvious questions because they are new at this. Yes we can enjoy answering their niaive questions with a polite smile and a thourough explanation. I want the new and respectful model to try hard, enjoy her time, and look forward to a second shoot where he confidence and experience takes MY work up a notch. And laugh at the nasty comments later in threads like this!
That's my 2 cents. Let me repeat how much I've enjoyed this thread.
We do mostly weddings and this is the #1 thing that gets under our skin so bad when it comes to weddings. I am sure we are not the only photographers that hear this...
Bride: "Hey, we are looking for someone local to do our wedding. Nothing fancy, just before & after the ceremony, and a few pictures at the reception. What do you charge for that?"
Us: "Well, our prices are all on our website, or we can build a custom package for you as no two brides want the same thing. Let us know exactly what you are looking for and we can go from there."
Bride: "OK, Cool! I will check that out and call you back in a few days."
(One week later, no reply, so we call her up)
Us: "Hey, have you decided what you want for your wedding yet?"
Bride: "Well, Uncle Bob has a really nice camera and he said he could do it..."
Us: (thinking) "OK, good luck in your life together, Goodbye."
