Hey
What kind of things are routinely done to males, just to make them look more fresh before a shoot
I can think of eyebrows, concealer...any other things?
Surprisingly the same amount of time, effort and product can be spent by a make up artist working on a male face as a female face, the make up is just less obvious.
Bags are covered, uneven skin tone and pimple hidden, cheek bones and noses slimmed down, jaws defined, eyes made to look more open ect.

Agreed! On a male, I'm still using 3 foundations to create depth and evenness, shading brows, blush, bronzer, mascara or tinting lashes, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lips, etc etc etc. I go through almost all the same steps as I do with a female model, but everything is made to look almost non existent. Focus on color correcting and shape correcting.
Thank you so much for sharing these tips! I was taught very basic men's grooming and I had no clue that some artist put so much into it. I would really like to master it on an advanced level and I'll be checking out the vid. Thanks!
Great thread.
I'm a photographer not a MUA. When I need a makeup artist I will gladly get one. I know my limits especially with women's makeup.
However for male portraits that are not high fashion or beauty and more "real person" I don't want a full make up but still have a few "get out of jail" items in my photo bag for emergencies. I would love anyone's recommendations or comments.
I have a good moisturizer and eye cream, Make Up For Ever HD powder and kabuki brush, lip balm and have been looking for a natural brown mascara that doesn't build volume. Considering Blinc.
Planning a male beauty/ fashion shoot and will be getting a proper MUA. However what are a couple of things a photographer should keep in their bag?

A full kit should always be on hand. What if his nose needs shading to make it smaller and give it shape? Or his nose has a crook or he has a scar that needs to be highlighted in certain spots to make it even? What if his brows are different from each other? You'd need to fill and shape. What if he shows up with a big red pimple? What if his brows/beard need trimming? You'd need orange concealer to correct excessive dark circles....etc etc etc These are just a couple "what ifs" that should always be prepared for...there are many many many more I wish it was as easy as just needing to even out the model's skin, but if that was the case, there would be no need for professional makeup artists.
