My 2006 Intel 20" iMac duo core 2ghz needs a new hard drive (at least that's what I think it does). Any recommendation on brand and model? There are so many different models even with the same brand and same capacity. For example, I have no clue what the hell is 'green drive'? are they made up of recyled poop? I am looking for a 500G to 1TB. But because these flat panel iMac is a pain to pop open and risky, I want something that is durable and long lasting.
Are you looking for a drive that will have your OS and programs on it or a high capacity storage drive?
I'm using a WD Velicaraptor 500 gb as my OS/Program drive and just started using the WD Caviar Green 3TB drives for storage. For my OS I wanted as fast a drive as possible and being my MB is still Sata 2 I didn't see the benefit of buying an SSD. Next MB will be Sata 3 and my C drive will be an SSD.
"Green drives" run at a slower spindle speed and even vary that according to usage conditions. If drive speed matters, for example, if you're working with video at all, I'd look to a different solution.

good luck, happen to me but mine was out-dated so I opted for new laptop over all.
