Having a professional website is extremely important.
And not some kitchy name like "fantasy light photography".
If you want to be professional, just use your name and showcase your talent.

Very nice work David.
I use just caitinbre.com it is not ready yet but will be soon. I have completely redone it. I guess I got tired of the old one it was dark colors. I wanted to go with something bright. I also use my own domain email.

I seen post for twitter, facebook, tumblr. But what about photographers and models that build there own site? I have one myself but am in the middle of redo. Starting from scratch right now but its nowhere ready to show.
What is your domain and website?
Do you think it is important to have one in our industry?
I'd like to add that if you're not using any analytics then you should jump on it fast.
This is a huge benefit to owning your own domain and maintaining your own site. Google Analytics is free and can be tied into targeted marketing campaigns.
Flickr's pro accounts have similar analytics for your profile, but the google set-up is free to add to any HTML sites and can provide an amazing amount of useful data.
I like your gallery. I am searching for a gallery like yours. What do you use?
Thank you.
I use SmugMug. Very easy to use, unlimited storage, tons of gallery options, sharing, etc.
Very similar to Zenfolio. I signed up for a free trial of Zenfolio and SmugMug...loaded galleries and played around with options and minor customizing...i ended up liking Smug a little better.
Price-wise, Zen is probably better.
I have a few different photography websites... Sadly, now that social media is all the rage, I get a lot less traffic on my photography websites than I do on my social media ones... But I still think that having you own websites is very important.
It's important to the extent that makes you seem more professional and "serious" to certain potential clients .... but it's a drag and time consuming to keep it updated ( mine was updated last in Dec 2011 ... and I'm working on it :-) so the social media wins that battle for me and brings new customers as well

Ya know what I used to do.. is put one teaser up with a link to my site or I blog it and post the link to the blog post so it drove people to my website to see more.
I have mine to control my own branding, content, and longevity online.
A mere $7/month means:
It's easier to to say, type, and remember "domain.com" than "forwardslash this and forwardslash that".
I don't have to worry about social stigma of using possible unpopular sites such as myspace, aol, etc.
Models/clients don't need an account to see potential 18+ images
I no longer need to worry if buttcrack means 18+
My website doesn't vanish when a social media site collapses or suddenly feels I no longer meet their TOS.
I have 60+ domain names, would you like me to list them all?
Yes, I think in any industry a good clean website is important. Even if it only serves the purpose of creating a presence in the online world, I would say it's important.

Yes, it's extremely important. Having a website shows you mean business. So much more professional than a FB, Twitter, instagram or whatever way. You can also control easier how you are found on the net.

When I investigated godaddy, I thought it would be a good choice, but actually using the designer is a pain. I might try to redo it, I might try to switch to wix, which a lot of people seem to like.
