I don´t get it, they reply Casting Calls "I´m very interested in the shooting bla, bla, bla...", then they get the gig, receive mails from the photographer, but never reply back... what the hell??

Seriously llamas, if you call yourselves professionals, then please check your MM email often if you applied for a Casting Call, I have this email I sent a week ago and is still marked as "unread", holding other llamas waiting for a response, I wasted the whole week. I can´t understand the lack of interest for this job, you´re lucky to be beautiful and talented enough and get paid for that, you should enjoy and love your job!!. If you´re not really interested in the job, then why to response a Casting Call?

... Maybe they haven't been online lately? If it still says unread, maybe they literally just have not been on, or didn't have enough time to read it.

Edit: also, move on. If she logs back in a week later, it's her fault for not answering it. There are plenty of attractive girls on here to shoot with.

I had a model respond to a casting, we are now 40 messages in with no shoot... I'm done with that one lol. At least she responded when I replied to her inquiry...

I agree sometimes is hard to have the time to get online, but I mean this is not a social network, it´s a great tool and the best way to contact people to work, so taking the time to get online and check the MM mail isn´t like waste your time checking your Twitter or Facebook account, it´s part of your job as model, photographer, MUA or any other related

Specially when you reply a Casting Call, there´s chances you get the gig, at least they should check their MM mail the days following to their reply. Actually you receive a notification to your regular email, so I think there´s no excuse for them to take care of their job.

There are models and there are wannabees.  Don't waste your time on the latter.

Its the Internet. People are a gloriously varied bunch, and this site is not exclusive to only those who have professional attitudes. Grow a thicker skin and get over it. Think of those who don't respond as a process of elimination. Take note and don't waste your time contacting them again.

If the message said its been read and they did not respond, then perhaps after learning more details of the shoot they decided to pass on it. Just because they liked the initial idea of the casting does not mean that after further consideration they did not have a change of heart. Yes, they should contact you to let you know that they no longer want to do the project so that you aren't left hanging, but some people weren't raised with manners and that's a fact you have to deal with no matter what industry you work in.

That being said, there are those of us who do care and who do conduct themselves in a professional manner. Don't give up on us all or formulate an opinion on the general behavior and attitude of models just because a few people have disappointed you. That's just as bad as the models who think every photographer wants to rape her and cut her into tiny pieces.

--

Edit

Also some people I've seen on here write one generic response to a casting call and then respond to every single casting call with exactly the same response. Both photographers and models do this. So its possible that this happened, you responded, she read the details of the shoot and decided not to contact you again after all.

Could be that she got other gigs and she's too ingracious to let you know.

Could be she chickened out.

Could be she just wanted to be selected for the egoboost and had no intent to follow through on the shoot. Now she can tell her idiot friends that she's in demand as a model, enough that she can turn down shoots.

Could be Gramma croaked.

Could be she's a dumbshit.

I can deal with these situations.  Ive had models with terrible communication as much as anyone else.

But I dont think l will ever stop being annoyed by it.

I have 2 such scenarios on the go at the moment. In one of them, the model initiated the contact asking to shoot with me!

In a world of smartphones there is rarely a good reason not to check your email once a day. Especially if you are in the middle of arranging a shoot.

But its never going to change so just deal with it.

<----  Not a fan of casting call -- too many inappropriate responders, and I often think that the best models for the job aren't looking at them.  I prefer to use...
     1)  Word of mouth from my local photographers & models, and
     2)  The "browse" feature.

Look through these forums -- lots of complaints about casting calls.  Find a better way.

Just because the message says "unread" doesn't mean she didn't get it.  MM has a feature where you can get your PMs sent to your email.  She probably read it.

She may not have responded because of the popular theory here of "no response is a response", which so many people vehemently defend on MM. (I think it's rubbish.)

Depending on the amount of time that passed, she may have been booked elsewhere, or when you sent more details, she decided she wasn't interested.  If it was a paid gig, maybe the pay wasn't high enough.  If it was a trade, maybe after your email she looked though your work for the first time and decided that she wasn't interested.

You'll never know the answers, because impolite and inconsiderate people don't give them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with "no response is a response" as long as no one has committed to anything yet.  Saying you are interested in a casting call is not a commitment.

I don't respond to most of the traveling llamas that contact me looking for shoots.  I assume that they are also contacting about 50 other photographers and don't need replies from people who are not interested.

Move on to the next model you like. A week is plenty of time for someone to check their messages.
