Okay, this is a pretty strange story.

Notre Dame middle linebacker Manti Te'o loses his grandmother and his GF (I've seen her referred to as his fiancee) in the same week. He plays through the anguish and is hailed as a guy of incredible character.

And now it's reported that the GF never existed.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr- … ncaaf.html

Was Manti part of the hoax or was he a naive victim?

If he was the tricked victim, at best he's been monumentally gullible. He never met her face-to-face. He reportedly spoke to her on the phone each night.

If he was part of the hoax, his draft stock plummets and he has as much personal credibility as Lance Armstrong.

On a separate note, does anyone here think it's possible to fall in love with someone before meeting them?

One created the story because he was covering up the fact that he had Deep Vein Thrombosis.
The other was a classic sociopath.

Yes... depending on how long and often you have had contact with... you can fall in love with a person's wit, personality, character, humor etc. or at least laying the foundation for it...

But that's me... and I am a shallow romantic... big_smile

I think it's possible for a person to believe he's in love with someone he never met.  Whether a dispassionate observer would call it love is another question.

That depends if the observer is "dispassionate" or "cynical"... smile

Gullible or brave to believe?
There is the concept of Skype you know :-)

I never had any problems even sans video proof, but I have excellent instincts.

te'o's playing days are over, regardless. he was on his back more than jenna jameson during that national title game.

Really? Do you have any idea of how many models' grandparents have died here on MM alone? Some models have lost 10, 12, maybe even 20 grandparents. Modeling is the number of cause of grandparent death in the US.

Wait till you hear the new CD that I'm starting to write(though half of it I would warn against being in a bath tub with any sharp objects around as it will be depressing as hell)
