I don't hate any of them. I think maybe the newer ones show a little more skill but for me it's mostly in the cropping.

Love this one

This one looks like it has a lot of retouching done to it and personally I'm not a fan of hard shadows. Especially that one. It almost looks fake?

This one is a little busy for me and displays a lot of front lighting.

I like this one but could use a crop with less ceiling

Take my comments with a grain of salt. I know what I like but that's my style. I'm not Mr. Awesome but I know what is. So I'm just one guy with an opinion smile

Backgrounds aren't a bad thing but use them in conjunction with your subject, not against them.

thanks, i do take people's opinions into account for technicalities and potential improvements. everyone has differen't taste and in the end as long as the model and myself are happy thats all that really matters.

but if i don't listen to more experienced people, i will never be able to grow as a photographer and will continue making the same rookie mistakes not knowing any better, this is my position when it comes to critique.

Hang on... I'm about to rant.... not about your images, about your question...

[rant on] The question is totally bogus.

You picked a couple of your newest images and a couple of your old images. First of all, we have to assume that you are posting images you like... Why? because you picked them. Folks don't usually pick things they DON'T like!

So what you are really asking is - Do you like the images I picked from my new bunch more than you like the images I picked from my old bunch.

But they are different models! So there's a bias built in immediately. As an example: I might like brunettes with small breasts more than blonds with moderate sized breasts. So I pick the brunette's picture... nothing to do with your photography.

Tell you what... show me ALL your old pictures and ALL your new pictures. You might have picked the old images out of 10,000 images. While the new ones were selected from 9,000 new images. I don't know...

Here's how to tell if you are 'improving'... How many 'keepers' did you get from a typical shoot in the 'old' days? Percentage wise...

How many 'keepers' do you get from a typical 'new' shoot? Percentage wise...

If you get more keepers percentage wise from 'new' shoots than from 'old' shoots you are 'improving' at least as far as YOU are concerned. I might come up with totally different percentages from your shoots depending on MY biases!

So assuming you started out making reasonable images, how does anyone know if YOU are improving by looking at a couple of images?

[/rant]

Hey, it's only my opinion...

The quality is about the same to me. There's room for improvement.

Hey, it's only my opinion...

and you are 100% entitled to your opinion and to be honest, never thought of it from that perspective. unfortunately i can not post all of my photos here but i can tell you this.

from when i first started shooting i would shoot 1 model and take about between 700 - 1200 photos. out of those i would narrow it down to 25 ok photos and from those i would take the 5 that stood out to me.

from my last 3 shoots, i have been more concious about what i'm shooting and composing. the group shoot i did, i shot 5 models and did that with under 600 photos. from that 600 i narrowed it down the same way as i did previous shoots.

now i'm not sure if i am allowed to post links to external sites in here. if i am allowed i will post up external links showing more photos then what i am allowed to upload to my gallery here.

F.Y.I. -- I've posted links to other sites in the MM forums and no one has gotten upset about it. And some were links to sites that had NOTHING to do with photography.

But again... seeing more images you picked ain't gonna tell me anything but what YOU like or think is better! My biases may be totally different! I MIGHT like awkwardly posed, grossly underexposed images of 220 pound 5' 3" bald ladies! (I don't... really!)

touche, thank you for taking the time to help me see a few things from a different perspective.

your question is weird, I agree.  It helps us to know what you are actually wanting to hear from us.  (examples, which of these do you like more, what should I delete, what is my best in your opinion, ect)

I really like your profile image.  The other three were on the same level for me.

Your images tend to look a bit orange to me (not the profile picture).  Maybe I need to recalibrate my monitor, or maybe you need to calibrate your monitor.

just my opinion, best wishes
