Bait and switch.

If I'm seeking paid work I only tag people in the area I'm going to, to let them know I'll be there and I'm only accepting paid work. They can either A) Send me a message or B) Ignore it and/or delete my tag.

I've found that the best way and it's the way that pisses the least people off.

I probably wouldn't have been happy about it either - but it's nothing to get upset over. Just say no thanks and move on.

This.  If you're going to contact someone seeking paid work, that should be in the initial message.

If I'm contacted by a model that wants to work with me, unless the message says otherwise, I will assume that she is requesting TF or is possibly willing to pay me.

The rationale basis, is that the travelling model is likely to offer something not necessarily available in my town, i.e. dedication, massive portfolio, experience etc...

While I agree with " dedication", I've had some less than ideal experiences with the traveling lot; jet lagged, anxious to get on the road, over-booked, under-booked and just plain road weary models. Geographically I'm an hour out of NYC and 1.5 out of Philly so locating what I need in the way of models is an easy chore... Still the traveling girls some how fit into a different class. The recurring problem I find with the traveling set is that I have limited time and budget for personal projects and they somehow never have the day that I do open.
