ok so the other day i was contacted by a photographer here on MM saying he was interested in shooting with me. of course being new, i got all excited and we started messaging back and forth. brainstorming possible shoot ideas. All of them being clothed and mayyybe so implied sexy shots as well. i was content and happy that it was all coming together so we exchanged numbers. I had said i only wanted to text first then we could converse after a bit. while texting, his whole demeanor changed. He went from the style he had described before to talking about doing erotic and nude shoots, which as a beginner, im not really up for that just yet and i said that in the beginning of our conversation. I started getting uncomfortable because he kept pushing the issue after i said i dont feel 100% comfortable doing that kind of stuff yet, that i just wanted to build my port with more photos nothing crazy. He kept on pressing the issue then stared asking if i could send him photos of me in the lingerie i have and if i could text him a shot of my vagina so he could throw up on Photoshop! is this normal photographers? is this something that most people do? I also asked him if he had a different site where he had networking (so i can cross reference him with other models and ask how shoots went because the shots he has in his port depict NOTHING of what he was trying to get out of me! But of course he said he would work through word of mouth and Facebook. hmm  i'm at a standstill not really sure if i should continue talking to this photographer (i know that sounded stupid but i dont really get alot of hits on here) or just move on in my search to build my portfolio! some advice please.

Thanks,
Genie

No one should should pressure you to do things that you're not comfortable doing. I would advise you to write him off and find others to shoot with.

Yep. Write his ass off. If he's pulling the old switcheroo in the middle of negotiations, just wait for the gap between negotiations and the actual shoot.

Set your limits and stick to them. If you wish, let them evolve as you grow more as a model and you become more comfortable and confident, but don't let anyone badger you into anything you don't want to do.

I'm new to Model Mayhem as well, but I've done a little homework before joining. There are a lot more stories from Model Mayhem about creepy photographers than most other sites. This puts a stress on beginner models on this site who are looking for photographers to build their portfolio.
This puts stress on photographers as well because it can make models more timid to work with and casts a shadow on the rest of us.
I wish there was a way to filter these kinds of guys out. Always look at their portfolio. If they have a website, check out their website. Maybe do a search for their names to see if there's bad press about them from other models.  For your own safety and peace of mind, always research as much as possible. The best work can only come if both parties trust each other.

Your first gut reaction on this was right - don't continue.

Regarding not getting hits, aside from replying to requests, search for photographers within a distance workable from you that you think you might want to work with after looking at their profile and portfolio. Check out casting calls the same way. Post more on forums for additional profile visibility, and contact people whose posts you noticed and liked on the forums (after checking profile and portfolio) and who are in your area.

If a model has agreed to shoot nude but has no nude images in her portfolio, sometimes a photographer asks for a nude picture or a bikini pic.  You don't want to shoot nude so no deal.

Asking for a "vagina" shot is just pervy.

If he is a MM member, why would he steer you to Facebook?  He can't post nudes on Facebook.

"Word of mouth"  You need to contact models on his MM portfolio.  If he hasn't credited them, don't work with him.  Well, at this point you won't work with him anyhow.

thanks guys for all the reassuring feedback! i agree its hard to actually "trust" because of all the pervs out there, i checked his profile and he's pretty much new on here. kinda made me suspicious that maybe he was an older photog on here before and got a bad name so changed up his story and identity a bit to get new people.  what kinda triggered me a bit at first was the fact that his port has no nudes and he specifically said once we start texting that his main area is nudes and erotic shots... if that was the case, his port would be full of them, not classy by the water or simple formal shots =\. i will try more to look around my area, i've scoured the casting calls in my area and even branched out a little further, replied to a bunch, hoping to hear back! as for the vagina shot, his exact words were, "send me a pic of your pussy so i can put it up on photoshop" definitely staying away from this creeper! thanks again for all the feedback and comments =]
