I had the idea to use some digital photo frames to display images from my portfolio when I have a booth set up at a show.  The problem is every frame I have tried does not show images at the quality of say my laptop or LCD monitor display.  I currently use an LCD monitor but that ties up a computer and have all the wires to deal with.  Not to mention having more than one setup would be expensive.

Any one have a recommendation as to brand / model of a digital frame 8" - 15" in size that doesn't look blotchy, low res or have a very narrow viewing angle?

Charlie.

Yeah, I've had the same problem -- those digital frames are great ideas but they are all cheaply made and make your photos look terrible.  I've been looking for a good one (at any price) for several years.

I think your best bet is a good quality laptop or tablet.  You won't find a good digital picture frame.

Apple make one, it's called the iPad.  There's two versions of it with a retina display.

Ok, so maybe my reply may be a little sarcastic and over budget, but honestly, I've never seen a digital photo frame that comes close, especially when it comes to sharpness, and viewing angle.

They work great but I would be hesitant about keeping them within the reach of tradeshow attendees (i.e. as a monitor). They have a way of growing legs.

I'd set up external displays with an iPad or laptop hidden somewhere in the booth though. That also allows you to have much larger monitors (always a good thing when you're competing for attention).

I don't have an iPad but I assume it allows for external displays.

My Android tablet also displays photos very good.  I have used it for this purpose.

I had the same thought.

There are secure holders that you can get for them to prevent those kinds of deformities. smile

There's a local cafe around here that offers free Internet access either via WiFi or using one of three iPads that they have permanently setup in the store.  They're in a stand that basically locks around the iPad and is bolted to the counter so you can't just disappear with them.

So, there are ways to resolve that particular issue (some of the cases I've seen are more aesthetically pleasing than others).

This one looks kinda neat.

The ones in the local coffee shop are more like this..

Yup, you can get either VGA or HDMI adapters.  HDMI has overscan so you lose the edges of your display on the TV screen, but the VGA cable gives a full resolution.

Yes, you can get an HDMI adaptor for it.Although it has rights management built in and does not work with all sources, for instance some TV channels broadcast on the internet.

Aye, some apps don't allow it at all (Lovefilm, for example).

I need to test and see if they have the same issue with the VGA cable.

and 4oD & Channel 5's on-demand app.

Pretty much the only broadcast app I've found that'll do it is the BBC iPlayer - at least through HDMI.  Haven't tested any of them with VGA yet, of course you'd have to figure out something else for sound. smile
