hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to hide the exif data from my pics, but keep my name for copyright purposes. If yes, which is the easiest way to do it?

Thank you!

There are tools that allow you to edit the exif so you could strip out everything you don't want someone to see and leave your copyright info. I don't think you can do it if you strip out all the exif data such as using "Save for web" in Photoshop.

I'm sure there are a lot of ways to do this, but here is my version:

Using Photo shop on PC,
1-press ctrl+N to open a new canvas,
2-in the dialogue box that opens click on the little arrow in the preset box and choose the document you already have open and click OK
3-Holding down the shift key click on your image and drag it into your new canvas
4- press ctrl+E to merge

all your EXIF data will be gone, you just have to record a new action to put your copyright info into your new canvas

hope this helps

If you are using Photoshop, then Save For Web allows you to specify what EXIF data to write to the JPEG.

Can I do this for a batch of images?

Thank you, I didn't know that. I always had it set to strip the exif data and didn't realize you could specify what data to keep using the metadata pull down.

Very simple and easy way to do it.

You can do the same thing on Export using Lightroom - for any number of images.

Buy LR... big_smile
It's why a lot of us use it despite its annoying little glitches...

I'm not sure if you can batch-process images using the save to Web function in Photoshop, or if there's a workaround in Bridge...

Using windows 7?

select the images you want to change EFIX data

right click on any of the selected images

click properties

click details tab

at bottom of box: Remove Properties & Personal Information

Select what you want to keep or remove

Hit OK

Done

Free, fast and can do a complete folder in seconds.

There is a free program  PhotoMe that will let you see and edit anything.  Even add notes ect.

I think it is currently limited to one image at a time but newer versions may add the batch input feature.

You can also just deselect whatever data you don't want to show in the metadata section in PS when you do a regular Save; you don't have to use Save For Web. Go through the tabs and uncheck whatever you want hidden and fill in whatever you want to show.

Just for interest, why do you want to remove EXIF data?

There is. Uncheck the fields you don't want to show in the FIle Info section and then batch-process whatever pictures you want to have that exif attached to. If you have pictures that already have data that you do not want showing, batch the new setup over them.

On newer cameras, even the GPS coordinates are embedded in the image!

Some photographers don't want the world to know that the prize winning Amazon Jungle in their images were actually their own untidy backyard.

Eh right now I'm not sure to follow you (do you mean batch-processing with the above mentioned softwares?), but it's probably because it's late. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the info smile

Yes - I'm talking about in PS - go to File > File Info and set it up as you want it. Then create an action to apply that particular File Info to one picture. Then File > Automate > Batch to apply that same action to a batch of pictures.
