Say I want to travel to a city for doing swimsuit photography of a few models that already live in the destination city, a city that I would be unfamiliar with. Not saying I am booking tickets yet, might not be until next autumn, might be in a month. Just wondering, what city would be photoshoot friendly, have easy access to beaches where a photographer and swimsuit model would not get hassled, where there would be a good selection of mayhem models to discover and choose to work with, beautiful beaches, friendly parking, etc. What are a few cities I should consider?
How about Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas on a 'Cruiseboat Photoshoot'... no permits needed... no hassles from authorities... no looky-lews on the beach...

Hmmm ... when I have enough budget, I might try this one of these days ...
Miami - 3600 MM Models, the majority of which shoot Glamour (not to mention all the Agencies). Combine that with ease of shooting and proximity to the beach...it's tough to beat.
There are certainly more visually appealing places to shoot but I'm not sure how many models there are in Fiji or Turks and Caicos.
And though it may not be about quantity, I have to believe the percentage of quality glamour models surpasses that of most cities other than Los Angeles.

Kudos to you for doing this
Thanks... and actually, you'd be amazed at just how economical it is. The upcoming Oct 13th (6 day) cruiseboat photoshoot (see MM events forum) will have approximately 20 models (by shoot date) for you to work with... 4 groupshoots planned (two on the beach and two on the ship) with all the models attending... plus one '1 on 1 shoot day' where you get to work with several models of your choice.
Total cost per photographer... less than $800... that's 5 days of funfilled shooting with over 20 models to work with... the most economical cruiseboat photoshoot in 2013... includes your cruiseboat ticket and the one model you will need to sponsor to attend. Wanna see hundreds of great images from last year's cruiseboat photoshoot?... checkout this link below... pics start on page 67 and go for a few dozens pages with over 60 models and photographers who attended...

Tell me more! My brother has a couple of timeshares in Cabo San Lucas and I have been there before. I could pretty much lodge there for free. If you have a link to any such cruiseboat photoshoots do share. I can also 'trade' timeshares (of my brother's) for pretty much anywhere in the world through RCI.com, so yeah i would love to combine a vacation with a beach photoshoot somewhere. I've been to Maui, Hawaii, also fantastic beaches (however I will NEVER do that drive on the 'road to Hana' ever ever again, holy sheeet my life flashed before my eyes several times doing that drive on Maui)

So what are the regulations for shooting on the beach in Miami? Can I pretty much meet up at a beach there with a model and do a photoshoot? Are thongs allowed (not here where I live, uptight strict laws, swimsuits can not be thong, no topless, etc)? Would I need a permit? Are there certain beaches that are best in Miami for doing a photoshoot without any permits?

This is the home of south beach so uptight is not an issue. That said its pretty trendy and people clicking away with cameras make people uneasy. I have only been involved in shoots with proper permits so YMMV
I live in the Florida Panhandle, near Pensacola. We have about 30 miles of beautiful beaches. Since we're in the panhandle the beaches are good for both sunrise and sunset shots. We have 2 forts built in the 1800's. There are some very nice national parks with natural Florida Landscapes. Being somewhat rural, with smaller populations, finding llamas is up to MM. Extending into Alabama, there is Dauphin Island (about an hour drive). A two hour drive east gets you to Panama City, which is best known for sring break parties.
+1 to the Florida Panhandle. I currently shoot Palm Beach, Miami Beach, and Naples, but if I had to pick one place where I KNOW I'll get my shots, it'd be Pensacola Beach... more specifically the beach at Fort Pickens....

Lilu's right... the water is even warmer than Hawaii... NO beachcops or permits needed. You run the risk of getting busted and hassled on ANY beach in the USA...

LMAO! Yes, the "Road to Hana" can leave you a bit tense to say the least. Did it at night in a tropical downpour once. At least twice I truly thought I was going to die.
But...
It was worth it to eat at Mama's Fish House! Totally!
I'm the first to bust Select's chops as our taste is very different. Having said that, he seems like he has a lot of fun and his cruise is sure to be a hell of a party.

Oh you hit the nail on the head there. The last 4 'Cruiseboat Photoshoots' I've hosted were MONSTER funtimes with well over 100 models and photographers going on those cruises. Three of the images captured on those cruiseboat photoshoots have won awards here on Model Mayhem (see my MM page for details). For some 'visual proof'... checkout the link below, where pics start on last year's Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta cruise:
Can't argue with this place... would probably go to Maui first thou...
Just don't go to the hospital there. I caught something in the water there on a shoot last September and the hospital almost cost me part of my foot. If you need medical care, get to Honolulu or LA.
Part of me never wants to see that island again, and another part wants to go back and conquer it.
The panhandle has the most beautiful beaches in not only the US, but the world. Snow white sand and calm emerald waters. It's breathe taking.
The west coast has some awesome land marks, cliffs, caves etc. Not the best looking beaches in the world. But fun options.
Miami's beaches are really nice and they have some cool options for shooting around the beaches. (Just walking down ocean ave with your camera and a model would be amazing)
Forget about the East coast. Some places like Ocean city, Maryland might be nice. But if you have the money to travel other places, I wouldn't even waste the time.

Perth - Western Australia - the world's most sunniest capital city, averaging an annual eight hours of sun each day.
I have to agree with the people who say Florida. Most of the offers I got here are swimwear shoots. Back when i was in Toronto, most I got were glamour/lingerie/beauty.
Cabo, Mexico
Malibu, California
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Maldives
Seychelles
...although I would love to try to have a shoot in a bikini in the Arctics basking in the snow instead of the sand with icebergs instead of mountains in the background, haha.
Casey Lynn is the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"! (Virginia Key, Miami, Florida)
Well, I live in South Beach and it's a great place to shoot almost anything. The beaches are close, the locals are accommodating (I've never been bothered in South Beach, Key Biscayne is another issue), and you can shoot a South Beach one piece suit any time (that's where the model picks one piece, top or bottom).

But I do live here. So I want to go to Eleuthera in the Bahamas or Sydney, Australia! I've shot in Eleuthera and it is amazing. The island is about a hundred miles long north and south, but typically only a mile wide east to west. You can wake up early and shoot pounding surf and coral cliffs with the sunrise over the vast blue Atlantic Ocean (they actually hold surfing competitions in Eleuthera), or go a mile to the west and shoot sunset images over the calm green waters of the Caribbean. This island is the undiscovered jewel for shooting swimwear in the Bahamas.

Sydney, Australia? Woof!! The most diverse shooting locations on the planet, all within a few minutes by car. Whether you want to shoot waves, surf, and cliffs at Banzai Beach, the cool clear waters of Rose Bay or Shark Beach, or the interesting historical architecture and beaches of Botany Bay, life is good for a photographer. And you get to see some of the most amazing animals on the planet from the blue tongue lizard, to wombats and wallabies. If there are nicer people than the ones in Australia, I'm unfamiliar with them. (Food on the other hand is English. You remember going that famous English restaurant in your neighborhood? Yeah, well........no.)
Kylie Boldy at Banzai Beach
Bessie B at Sharks Bay
Gloria Craven in Rose Bay
And we all loved Lucy in 2000 with Sydney Harbor in the background!
So yeah, Miami (South Beach, the southern tip of Miami Beach which is not a beach in Miami, but an island off the coast of Florida), is great! But Eleuthera and Sydney are fantastic locations to shoot.
