Ok so is this photography related. Well once my wife finishes with her grad classes she will have the option to basically pick any location in the world to work. Given my photography business she asked where could we move and I still find work.
My markets are weddings, high school seniors, sports those pay bills and then of course fashion is my personal work. So what would be a good place to move outside of the states and still find work in the markets I'm accustom to? The other question is once we figure on where I will start to learn that language but which countries would be more forgiving by having a heavy English presence?
consider where in the world you have contacts.
you will be starting from scratch in a competitive market wherever you go. it will take a while to get into the wedding market anywhere, no matter how good your work is. So your friends list on FB is your best friend
you will need to use the contacts (and abuse them) to get in the door.
Or just go to paris. if you are going to starve you may as well be in paris

And if my significant other had such employment, you better believe I wouldn't be pursuing weddings and senior portraits...wherever that would be.
Complicated but its a doctorate in environmental health with a masters in public health. Basically in short she would/is in charge of all safety within any company she would work for. As a consultant she would over see say a production plant safety procedures and implementing the procedures to keep people safe and insurance companies off the companies back.
I figured on having to start all over maybe even assist or second shoot under an established pro in the area. I just don't know what others countries still have a big market. By that I mean here in the states we can charge (basing this on my region) anything from $2k to $10k so it's a large market even in a small area. Also it's not an over worked area there is work for everyone.
I'm just curious if in cities like Berlin, Paris ect ect there is a wedding or whatever market large enough to hold such ranges or if the money is low because people in other countries don't over spend for such luxuries?

I meant that more tongue-in-cheek like, what the hell am I doing wrong? lol. but that's impressive.
Personally, if I could move to one place it would be Italy...but that's more about personal taste than any job market.
HaHa that's the first place she has already gotten a job offer and I said I could be packed in 5 min.
One thing I failed to mention is we have a 3 year old. So I'd love to find a place that would be great for kids.
in that case you are not talking about a country or even a city. you are talking about a neighborhood. no city is 100% suitable for kids everywhere. some not at all

It doesn't have to be a neighborhood although it would be nice. However I've lived in cities and plenty of people have raised kids in other cities but yes some place safe. My wife currently has a friend living in London with a toddler and they also jump a train all the time.

My partner has a PhD in Neuroscience and is finding it hard to find work (that's after being in the field for nearly 10 years and having numerous publications).
Times are tough.

I live in Tunisia. There are two other, real photographers here. One is some French guy they won't give a business license to, and the other is an American couple who shoot weddings, etc. They shot 40 weddings last year. It pays less than the US, but the rent on a huge, nice home in some parts of the city is $500 a month.
Not for everyone, but what you are talking about is certainly possible.
Until last week, I have only been shooting for American companies as my business license hadn't been issued yet. I've been turning away a lot of fashion work for locals (a lot of MAJOR french brands are manufactured here). Mainly look-books. But some brands are tired of the expense of flying in French and Italian photographers. We'll see now that I have my license.
We chose here because I wanted my kids to know one European and one non-european language when they grow up. They are currently learning French and Arabic.

Berlin is a good choice for cheap space, but no local work.
Paris - work possible if you speak their language fair enough.
Any size apartment space available...
If you want to buy, average price is around 14,000$ / 10 square feet.

Western North Dakota. The oil boom there is likely to last a lifetime and everyone seems to be making lots of money. Finding a good place to live is the hard part, there's a housing shortage. Bring warm clothes.
