For the longest time I was keeping my hair natural colored, or as close to natural as possible. The farthest I had gone was dark eggplanty red. It was all for the sake of modeling.
Then after not having done a single shoot in over a year I decided SCREW IT! And put green in my hair during build week at burning man It's been an adventure ever since! I love adding colors to it.. first it was green with blue and orange, then deeper green with blues and dark red.. ooooh the possibilities are endless!!
However, it does seem like a lot of 'standard' photographers and designers don't care much for the green in my hair.. It's not entirely covered.. the top of my hair is still my natural light brown color, then it fades into colors.
So, lovely adventurous types [silly that something as basic as color has to be on the adventurous side] where's my market now?
I looked at your port, and you have some truly "frightening" photos there (in a good, make-up, zombie way).
My suggestion to you would be to get your hair back to a natural color so you could model for "normal" photos and instead of dyeing your hair an "off" color and turning off mainstream photographers, buy some good wigs, so you can model "alt" too!
Keep your hair how you like it and look for interested photographers. If you want to continue with more editorial stuff buy a -good- quality natural color wig. Its your life and you should be able to look and feel how you want (unless you have an agency paying you money and booking you tons to tell you otherwise). I spent years with natural hair and hidden tattoos working promotions and shoots and got no more work than I do now, just different types.

that's awesome! thank you!
Totally inspirational right there So I gets it's really about the hustle, not repressing yourself haha
I was concerned at first that a lot of photogs wouldn't like it, but at the same time, I kind of didn't care. But now, the top of my hair is a dark black with red tints when light hits it just right, and the bottom of my hair is a somewhat bright pink. Photogs seemed to like that combination better than the purple and pink together. In the spring I'm going to dye my hair a dark blue on top, and maybe teal on the bottom.
I don't like having natural colored hair lol, it bores me and I feel like dying my hair a lot, shows just how spontaneous I am and that I like all eyes on me because I have crazy colored hair (it was awesome picking my daughter up from school and just the looks I got from the other parents lol, I'm definitely not a typical mom and I choose not to be...all about individuality ^_^

Totally agreed! The alternative scene is probably where you want to focus, a lot of awesome stuff comes out of it too! But, the awesome thing about hair is that it can be covered with a wig or dyed, so have yours the way YOU want it. My hair is teal and I love it but if someone else doesn't I can just cover it up!

Alternatively colored hair is much like a tatoo in a photograph--it draws the eye immediately to that area. If that's the primary goal of the photographer (or the client), you've aided the process.
