I recently purchased a new laptop computer.  I have photo shop CS 3 on it.  I am having difficulty making a file with my "Kenzphotos" logo on it.  I know that I open photo shop and click on new file.  From there on, I am having trouble getting my logo placed on a field and then saving it.

I previously had photo shop CS 2 on my other laptop computer.  I had no trouble doing my Kenzphotos logo with that program.  That computer is now broken and I am unable to get back in my CS 2.

If you can walk me through the process, I will appreciate it greatly!!!

Thanks

This may sound like a daft question but do you also have your old logo file open?

Once the logo file is open in a Photoshop window you can select the logo, copy and go to your new window and then paste.

Another way is to choose the move tool and drag the logo to your new window.

Let me know if this helps?

If you have your logo as a layer in a .psd file, try this:

Create a new image and add a background color

Open the .psd file that contains your logo

With both files open, right click on the logo's layer, select duplicate layer, then in the pop up box select the new image you just created. Your logo should show up in the new image as a separate layer.

This is how I add my copyright notice to my images in CS4 - it should work in CS3 as well.

I do NOT have my old logo file.  It is on my old laptop computer and it is broken. I am unable to open it or get on it to try and get the file from it.

The main problem I am having, even with the just using the text tool to simply write my name on a photo is this:

I LARGE vertical line comes over the photo I have opened and regardless of the size of the type size I select - the letters that I type are HUGE and go way outside the picture - even at type size 6.

When I made my Kenzphotos logo on CS 2, I simply opened photo shop, clicked on New under the file heading.  Made sure the background was transparent and then selected a font style and type size.  Then I wrote my logo out and saved it as a PSD on my desktop.  I was then able to simply add my logo as a layer to photos I wanted to post.

What am I doing wrong?

No matter what tool I try or whatever I try to do - I am unable to change the size of the type on a photo or able to make a new, separate folder with the logo in it.

I went to Google and clicked on CS 3 and watched the tutorial.  It does not address my icon problem and type size problem.

Please help!

Didn't work...

When I used to open a picture on my other computer, with CS 2 - I was able to open more than one image at a time and have them both on the screen at the same time.  Now, with the CS 3 program installed on my new laptop, I am only able to have ONE image on my screen at any one time.

Before, I used to open the PSD document with my logo, click and drag it to where I wanted it on my photo - then flatten the layers and save as...

Presto, I had photo with my logo on it.

I have CS3 and I can open more than one picture at a time.

In any case, you can also simply open one picture; copy the layer you want on the other picture; close that first picture; open the second, Paste. The layer from the first picture will be there and you can resize the layer as you wish.

But it is possible to open multiple pictures in CS3, so if you cannot, it might be something that is set up wrong or a flaw in the Preferences. Sometimes if you delete the Preferences file and then restart PS, weird things correct themselves.

I think something is wrong with the set up of the program.  I will try your idea.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and offer a suggestion.  I appreciate it.

.

Delete your CS3 installation, reboot your laptop, then reinstall CS3.

Or, restore default settings in Pshop.. I am guessing that this is not your install of the program? It was on the used computer that you purchased?

If you were pretty fluent in PS2 hen you should not have much if any change in PS3 doing the same thing..

99% chance of doing nothing to help. Clearing the preference is much more likely to help, and takes a LOT less time/effort.

OP: more recent versions of PS default to a tabbed view of your open images, but you can change the default, and even drag tabs off the main window to their own window--if you're not using a maximized window setup.

You are correct - the store I bought my new laptop computer from installed PS CS3 before I took delevery of the unit.  I guess, I'll just have to take the laptop back to the store and see what they can do.

Thank you for your thoughts.

What is that note about "Maximized window" when I close photo shop all about???  I did not see that in CS 2.

Do you have access to any old images with your old logo on it? (Sorry, I haven't looked at your stuff on here) If so, just steal it from there and re-create it as a new .psd. Saturate the letters & decrease their exposure if-needed, to cover background-image that shows through - if any does? This is how I created my own credit-lines and watermarks, and almost all watermarks for clients and such. Using either CS5.1 on my workstation, or PHOTOSHOP 7! Here's the latest ones I used PS7 to do. If you'd like a more detailed explanation, PM me and I'll respond with-info when I get in later this evening big_smile

IMHO alone;
