Well, in the interest of fairness, it's probably appropriate to note in the SB that it now appears that the sex/prostitute charges against Menendez were lies.
Okay, so let's see how things currently stand:
--a lawyer approaches this woman (an escort) and offers to pay her and another women to read a script saying both had been paid for having sex with Sen. Robert Menendez.
--they're videoed making these statements.
--then video then goes immediately to The Daily Caller with charges that Menendez cavorts with prostitutes.
--Menendez denies this story and says it is a lie.
--the Dominican police begin investigating this claim and decide to drop the investigation.
--a woman then comes forward, signs a notarized affidavit saying she's the woman in the video, that she was paid to appear in the video, that she and the other woman in it had never had sex with Menendez and had never even met him.
--she and her lawyer say they're going to pursue charges against the individuals who paid them for this.
Okay, now that's pretty slimy as far as this goes. But wait...there's more.
The Daily Caller is now trying to insist that the woman who insisted she didn't have sex with Menendez is NOT the prostitute who actually had sex with Menendez. Their response is that their names are spelled differently and they're different ages. Really dumb move by the Daily Caller...this is about as much intelligence as a bag of hammers. How would the Daily Caller actually know the real woman involved in the original video unless they were involved in the taping of it (rather than just being given a copy of the tape which had the woman's face blurred out)?
For the record, the woman and her lawyer insist she's one of the women in the original video, she's signed a notarized affidavit indicating this. Dr. Miguel Galvan who had recruited the two prostitutes in the first place also said in a notarized affidavit that this woman is one of the two in the original video and that he recruited her and paid her to make these claims on video. Note: the FBI also went to the Dominican Republican to try and find prostitutes who slept with Menendez and has yet to find any.
So...all the facts are not in. But it does appear that some of the people railing at the start of the thread about why the "liberal press" were showing favors to Menendez were a bit premature. At this point, it appears that one of the far right blogosphere sources utilized tactics pretty similar to Breitburt to try and get a scam/sting going here. And the reality is, instead of an embarrassing story about a democratic congressman, we may have fabrication of evidence by a right wing media source.
What is this woman trying to gain? I mean...admitting to accepting money to help commit defamation of character? I'm not seeing how she comes out ahead in this.

You've conveniently ignored that:
(a) the attorney originally involved in creating the video said that he was paid to get two hookers to read the script; and
(b) the FBI has been in the Dominican Republican for the past month investigating this and has found no, zero, zip evidence of any involvement with escorts or hookers.
Now, Menendez may indeed be guilty of evidence peddling (as are most members of Congress). But that was a separate issue.
As for Breitbart, it's interesting to me that you'd think I'm trying to defame his reputation. To me, it's about slicing and dicing the Sherrod video so that it becomes a lie (so that it's used to say the opposite of what it factually said). "Friends of Hamas"? And you think b/c I don't bother to check the spelling of his name I'm smearing his "legacy"?

I don't see "Breitburt" as being a pejorative misspelling, unlike, say, "Obummer," which I don't believe has been objected to much by the right side of the Soapbox aisle.
FWIW (nothing), I think that intentional and dismissive misspellings (for instance, "Raygun") are simply not effective adult critique.

Okay, as I read the OP, it wasn't so much about Menedez as it was about a so-called double-standard...that here was Menendez cavorting with hookers and doing other bad stuff and everyone on the left conveniently ignores it. Well...
1. A number of people who aren't on the right condemned anyone who cavorts with hookers or engaging in influence pedding.
2. It appears that the right was too quick to condemn Menendez about hookers.
3. In fact, right now there is pretty strong circumstancial evidence that the Daily Caller may have made this happen. That's not called getting the story wrong, it's called manufacturing a lie and then publishing it.
There are plenty of politicians on the left and plenty on the right who have done bad things. But the OP was about how Menendez was getting a pass from those on the left. It now looks like that pass was well deserved and instead we may be looking at a possible scandal of a right-wing medial source trying to manufacture a scandal with bribery. If that had happened in the US, people would be going to jail. But b/c it's in the Dominican Republican, the Daily Caller may end up getting away with only a black eye and bad reputation if this truly is linked to think.

I'm sure that wouldnt have mattered to democratic voters but it might have changed the election had that information come out prior to the vote.

You forgot again. Your lie was that Sen. Menendez pulled strings with the FBI and DOJ to get them to delay action, when you don't have a shred of evidence to back that up, and you knew you had no evidence.
Mentioning things that are not lies doesn't absolve you of the lie you told.

Your theory of a conspiracy of politicians and media that keeps non-liberals from getting elected is interesting, from a psychological standpoint. The reality, that the country rocks back and forth between Democrats and Republicans, and has for many generations, kind of undermines the theory.

As for your video, post it. Because evidence that you can't produce is worthless, as worthless as the unevidenced claim that Sen. Menendez cavorted with under-age prostitutes.
BTW, I have posted that if Sen. Menendez did cavort with under-age prostitutes, I condemn him for it, and he should be not only unseated but prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But until there is evidence of that, it's a moot point and hence, irrelevant, except as partisan slime.

Even if he did I dont care. I think prostitution should be legal.
However, traveling to a foreign country to engage in prostitution and underage sex is a federal offense and since Mr Menendez is a big government goon I hope he gets arrested and spends time in prison.
Of course, I support eliminating those laws but in the meantime I would like to see Menendez go to prison. I suspect he might based on his criminal friends and his alledge kick back deals.
Of course, politicians are a ruling class and not subject to the prosecutions that normal citizens are. We will see
