You asked if it was OK to approach a photographer for them to submit images to a magazine.  The answer is; "Of course it is OK to approach a photographer to ask him to submit images he has shot of you."  Your view of TF is a little bit self-serving, but that is just a visceral response.

It is not OK to do it yourself, without asking.

If you've shot images with a photographer and have ideas, talk to the photographer.  The worst he can say is "no."
